|
|
I have towed a trailer, about 10% of the time, for the last 10 years using a number of big displacement Japanese bikes.
I'm thinking of trailering with my K11LT (20K miles).
The previous mounts had multiple wet clutches and handled the trailer well. My concern is that the Beemer has a single dry clutch and it appears it is not easy to replace.
Do any of you guys pull a trailer and if so, what is your opinion?
Any input, pro or con, would be very helpful.
Thank you,

Jim does (I'm sure he'll pop in with more info) and there's a good number of K1100s with side cars as well. It shouldn't be an issue. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I've pulled a Uni-go about 30,000 miles. No problem at all. Can't even tell it's there until down to about parking lot speeds.
I just started pulling this little homemade - no problem pulling it, either. This trailer still isn't quite what I want - guess I'll have to build my own.
Don't know what size trailer you're pulling, but if it's loaded right, you shouldn't have any problem. I think the K will probably out pull most of the comparatively sized or even slightly larger Japanese bikes.
If you find a decent hitch, please let me know where you got it. I'm on my second one, and although it's a lot better than the first, it still wasn't made right
If you're old enough, you'll remember the Amos and Andy Show episode when they tried to pull a travel trailer with a motorcycle... wasn't a K, either... _________________ Jim

|
|
I have been pulling a camp trailer for the last 2 years. I was pulling it with a K1200RS but this year I will be using my K1100LT. I am using an old Renyolds hitch. I have friends that have used these hitches for years with out any trouble. The camper weighs 235lbs empty then I usually add a few lbs of gear to it. If it is loaded right it was easy to tow. I had it loaded wrong and it was a problem but the good thing is you will know it in the first few miles. I was able to adjust the load and it was fine after that. I will be towing the camper cross country to the national rally in WY in July. It is about a 2000 mile trip for me. As far as the clutch goes it was not a problem on the K1200RS so I dont think it will be a problem with the K11LT. With the K1200Rs I was able to run at highway speeds (up to 85mph) I didnt try to push it higher then that. Stopping was a little weird at first but didnt take long to get used to it. If anyone is looking to pull a trailer with a K1200RS I do have a hitch for it I am selling. _________________ Ron

Small world. I sold the K1100LT cause it was too tall for me and I was using the K1200RS. Well after the return trip from West Bend WI last year I knew it was over between me and the K12RS. So I went out and got another K11LT and had it lowered and put a K75 Low seat conversion on it. well the lower shock is working fine and lowering the front end also worked fine. BUT the K75 low seat has to go. We rode to Lake George this past weekend. In all my years of riding my butt never hurt as much as it did this weekend. I am going to have to deal with a higher seat and just get a pair of high heal riding boots. I love the K11LT and dont want to have to give it up so I will just have to deal with the height. The K11LT I got dont look as good as yours and I will be getting it painted at the end of this riding season but till then I will ride the hell out of it and we will be riding to the Nationals in WY. I will be on the K11LT and my Son will be on the K100RS and the wife will ride her Honda PC800. I will be pulling the Camper with the K11. _________________ Ron

Suggestion: Either get a custom seat made on the low seat pan or at least shave the sides of the seat foam if you get a "normal" seat.
Corbin gunfighters generally are pretty low for a normal seat - not good for 2-up riding though. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks for your inputs. Looks like the K11 is up to trailering.
Which hitch manufacturer would you guys recommend?
Dave - Is that a gunfighter seat? Nice. Looks like it is lower then stock. How do you like it?

It's the Corbin Dual Canyon seat and few things you should know:
1. It's hard as a brick. Great for long rides, but almost intolerable for short jaunts. A sheepskin fixed that.
2. My pilon loves it. Comfortable and the backrest has great support.
3. It brings the rider rearword and down a bit, maybe an inch, but it made me clear the fairings, wheras before with the stock seat my knees hit.
4. It's the best looking seat out there. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006
