After 4 years of owning my 1996 K1100RS I discover the bike has automatic signal canceling! I remember someone mentioned that it had it but I never saw it until now. I guess I was not giving it enough time. Is it just timed in the flasher box or tied to some other curcuit? Can the time be changed? _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

As far as I know, the time/distance program built into the turn signal control box is not changeable. What it is is what it is.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that it senses the heat that is built up in the wire when the turn signal is flashing. Before I went all LED it used to turn off faster in warmer weather and slower in cold. Now with the LEDs it almost never turns off before I need to turn it off. _________________ Rich

What I was told by the dealer when I bought mine was that it's based on time and speed. So if you slow down, it waits longer. I've completely forgotten how to cancel the turn signals. I tried it once a while back and honked the horn instead. Right button, wrong side. _________________ M N B

On mine, it auto cancels after 300 metres whilst moving. It counts electrical pulses from the sender on the bevel box which also drives the odometer & speedo. So if one indicates 250 metres before a junction, it should stop 50 metres after the turn. Similarly if one indicates at say, 400 metres, another press 100 Metres later will reset the counter. If one stops at a junction the indicators will continue untill the prescribed distance has been covered.

Cool - Was this feature introduced at a later stage in the K11 lifecycle, or is it an undocumented feature on all K11's ? _________________ C1 200 (2001)

The self-canceling turn signal feature was on my '85 as standard equipment.
I am pretty sure it was not the first motorcycle to have it. A buddy's Kawasaki Z1R had it in something like 1978. On that bike, a solenoid physically moved the turn signal switch back to the center.

So if I am at a stop sign it should stay on until I continue on through the intersection? If I remember right I kept trying to get it to work while the bike was never moving and it never went off, I think
Never mind, Tim answered the question in the last sentence. Some day I got to learn how to read!!!!!!!!!! _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

If you are under 25mph it doesn't count that time, if I remember correctly. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

I stand corrected - p15 of my Riders Handbook says :
Self cancelling indicators
The left or right indicators are cancelled automatically after a certain time or distance.
Time
After approx 10 seconds on open roads above 30 mph
Distance
After approx 210 m (690 ft) in urban or slow moving traffic
So, now we know _________________ C1 200 (2001)

I run the Kisan Signalminder. It has three interval settings, and the signal remains on when the brake is activated. The best feature is that it allows the single element bulbs to operate as marker lights, which also have three settings, OFF, LOW and HIGH intensity. No need to modify the sockets or add wiring. I don't know about the rest of you blokes, but trying to access the front turnsignal bulbs is bloody painful, and I have the scars on my hands to prove it. _________________ Larry

Yep thats what I had in mine too and it pooped the bed. Luckly I kept the OEM flasher relay and I am only missing the running lights. _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

Contact Kisan, see if they will replace it for you. They have been good to me, they may give you a break too. _________________ Larry
