In Vietnam I thought my M1969 flak vest was the best money could buy.

These impact jackets are amazing Shocked
Deserves its own thread. Have you seen / tested one of these Shoganai?

They've been selling for 2 years and seem to be sold out in my size Sad

Would be nice to see independent testing by some motorcycle oriented service like MCN

No, I haven't but had I been wearing one when I crashed in AZ at over 65 mph and got bodily wrapped around a tree, it might have very well prevented the spinal fractures.

They are not the only company making such a jacket, look around.

I think I will get one when I buy my next jacket.

Shogs I am not sure such a vest would protect from extreme flexation/extension injuries which is most likely what happened to your, and most peoples backs. (unless they have a compression injury such as landing on their ass from a fall)

Also The jacket will not protect from fist-sized blunt force trauma (such as a bumper) or pointed objects.

I can definitely see the benefits of such technology, but personally I would like to wait a few years for them to iron out the wrinkles first.

Perhaps not, but it's one of those things like in medicine where "It can't hurt, might help and looks good on paper"

Before I invest in one I will have to see it inflated. I suspect some are very firm and act like the foam in a helmet by absorbing some of the impact and spreading that force over a greater area. (i.e. bumper)

No M/C jactet out there provides any lateral protection; the air bags do. This may retard the flexion/extension and lower the chance of spinal injury. Plus they protect the ribs.

That can't be harmful.

I wonder if Dale Erheart, who thought the Hans device was a pointless, would change his mind if he had the chance. (RIP Dale)

Yeah I read about that.

He was the point man in the crusade to prevent NASCAR from making the devices mandatory in all cars.

Ironically it would have definitely saved his life and prevented his neck from breaking.
