Hello KOG!
I am thinking of mounting a 22 liter BMW top case to the back of my K1100RS. I want the extra carrying capacity, but also need a back rest for my wife. She will not expcect to push back hard, but would feel more secure with something behind her.
Anyone have experience with these they can share? Good or bad?
Thanks! _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

We have a 22 litre box for exactly that reason- security for the passenger (Cathy pretty much insisted on it). But don't count on using it as a constant backrest since it is set too far back from the saddle to be useful as such and it is not very tall. If I do accelerate hard unexpectedly Cathy's back will come in contact with the box's pad- again more for passenger security.
Also it is not very big inside for storage. We traveled earlier this year and Cathy used the soft bag that came with the 22 litre box for her clothes (just for 2-3 days). Getting that bag in and out of the box was a pain. The bracket that keeps the lid from opening too far and the lock mechanism make it tough to put the soft bag in and out.
My thought is that in the future we plan on going with a Corbin with passenger backrest and strap a tailbag behind that.
Good luck,

My missus feels more secure with the top case on as well.

True. But mine is a little easier to load and unload now that the L-bracket is now an "I-bracket." Seems that when the lid pops up at speed the wind force is sufficient to bend that bracket and lay the lid straight back. Fortunately, it seems to function better now.
Unfortunately, somewhere in Illinois there is half a pair of Joe Rocket leather/armor gauntlet gloves and a waterproof fabric bag that I no longer posess. Lesson learned: Lock the lid before strapping your bag of gear onto the pillion. _________________ tlp

Only the Reasonists. They believe in an evidence-based world, something called Rationalism. But it's a tiny group, not so influential.

The 35 liter top cases suck. They move all over the place(up and down/side to side) and the rack can crack. Not to mention how bulky and awkward they are off the bike. I'd ditch mine for some other arrangement if it didn't have speakers in it. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
