Just picked up an '85 K100 rs, cheap. Tearing it down and found coolant in the motor oil and water in the transmission oil, when I drained them down.
The bike's been sitting for quite some time and wondering if there are causes that may lead to the contamination other than cracked block, head gasket leak ? Hoping for a simple fix here.
Could the water / oil pump, transfer coolant to the oil when seals go bad ?
How could water possibly get into the tranny ? Are there any vent points in the tranny that rain could have found ? Waiting for my Clymer manual to show up before I start into the motor.
Help. |

Yes, it's most likely the seal on the oil/water pump - very common in older Ks.
I can sell you a good used assembly for $135 shipped if you're in the US.
There is a breather vent on top of the tranny - that's probably how water giot in there. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks, I hope it's that simple. I may take you up on the water pump purchase offer. Once I have the manual in my hands, I'll make a decision on trying the repair or simply buying another.
Figured I'd try the simple fixes first and work my way down. |

Motorworks here in the UK have assembled a repair kit for under $40, with all the parts you need
Add a Clymer, and you are good to go.
I'm sure that your local independent BMW parts dudes will have a similar bundle, and you know the job is done right.
If not, I can source one here, and ship it for you _________________ C1 200 (2001)

Thanks, just ordered the seals / gaskets for the pump and it was around $40 here as well.
Hoping that solves it. |
