|
|
After paying $1400 to rent a Harley (it was all I could find) when visiting the States, I want to buy a bike to keep at my brother's in Atlanta.
I currently have a K75 and a K11RS in the UK, so anything similar would be nice. Up to $3000 (but the cheaper, the better).
Any other suitable road bike might be considered.
Any opinions on the idea? The bike would be used by me a couple of times a year, and occasionally by my brother. I haven't looked into insuring it yet - perhaps this is best done by my brother? |

Thanks for the tip re Craigslist - found a few possibilities (no BM's, though).
Any suggestions re insurance - I've emailed a few Georgia insurers, but I'm guessing they won't be able to help, as I'm not a GA resident. My brother, at whose house I'll keep the bike, doesn't have a motorcycle licence, so I doubt he'll be able to insure it, and add me to the policy.
Looks like I may have to rent another Harley..... |

If your brother is going to use it part time, he must have a cycle endorsement on his license. Sounds to me like your both financially secure or at least not struggling. If he can find & keep/store a bike for you, liability insurance only should not be too pricey and is an option you could consider.
Liability only in WI is just over hundred a year. Lot of considerations to think of here as your situation is unique.
On one hand, you rent & ride and are done with it till next time.
If you keep a bike at your brothers & he uses it part time, there is the maintainence & the worry about all the " What if's " that can arise.
Unproperly stored motorcycles are un happy motorcycles too. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Chas - you only have to pick it up once! It's less than 200 miles - and if you were going to ride it back to Atlanta, it looks like a nice ride... _________________ Jim

200 miles? Bah! That's a tank and a half of gas.
I rode my bike back from Southern Jersey when I bought it.

Pffffft! I rode mine back from Scottsdale, AZ. 2,630 miles or so - in three days... The tires looked OK, and it had oil showing in the sight glass - that was about all I knew about it when I picked it up . _________________ Jim

Err, no - too far for my non-motorcycling bother to drive with a trailer to fetch it. Or to go check it out for me, before I pick it up.
In short, I have to find something in Atlanta, or I buy a Harley t-shirt and rent every time I visit |
