sunday i put the bug eye motobrick on its lorry with no evidence of a leak...

tuesday i took the bug eye motobrick off its lorry and there was some red fluid around #4 pictured here...

it had to leak out while on the lorry because there was about 3 eye dropper drops of it on the bed of the lorry...

it appears its not threaded... it would freely spin both ways by hand...

what is this thing and why would it leak from just being hauled around on the f ed up cali freeways...

Johnny - that's the breather - it's not threaded - it just spins...

I don't know why you'd get gear oil out there - parked on a steep angle? Overfilled? Really bad roads? The final drive holds .25 or .26 litre - about a fourth of a quart. I guess if the bike bounced around enough, you might get a few drops out - but it seems it would do that when you're riding it. Maybe the breather has failed - but I haven't heard of that happening.

You can visually check the level by removing the fill plug off (#10) - the gear oil should be about to the very bottom of the threads for the fill plug - when the bike is level.

Was it serviced recently? I guess it's possible someone overfilled it - but not likely.

this is what i think happened... i usually have the geezer cover pulled down shielding the final drive from wind a road grime...

i noticed i didnt pull it down as far as usual leaving the final drive exposed to the wind... the wind... which is tunneled through a void in the front of the truck bed... blasts exactly on the vent cap...

im thinking the fluid was sucked it out like a straw when being bounced around on the ch1t hole california freeways...
