I've been working on this mod for almost 12mths now, mostly planning. I knew what I wanted, but wasn't sure how I was going to do it. I finally worked it all out and this is what I did.
I got a Sign Manufacturer to cut and bend some 5 x 10mm clear perspex to the shape of the outside edges of my headlight reflector and he polished all the edges. I then made cuts across one side of the bars which would catch the light from an LED mounted on one end of each bar.

I used Silicone adhesive to secure short pieces from the casing of a Pen to hold the 12v white LEDs onto one end of each of the perspex bars. I then used silicone again to secure the perspex bars in place on either side of the reflector (shown below).

The wiring was fed up to the original parklight socket, where I soldered the wires into a bulb that I smashed and removed the glass, then filled it with silicone. This allows me to put it back to a stock setup again if needed, but I can't see that ever happening. I sprayed the reflector satin black to remove any indication that it was originally the parklight.

The finished job (as shown below) gives me a noticable parklight when turned on at night in the style of BMW cars and when the headlight is turned on, it blends in.
I also fitted a HID (Hi & Lo beam) Headlight at the same time, will post details and pics soon, so now my bike has no incandesant bulbs at all.

The cuts along the perspex bar look very uniform. What did you use for them?

Congratulations on a stunning looking mod, but I bet the hardest part was removing the headlamp, then getting the glass off. Razz

I used the edge of a Flat File.

Yes the Fairing removal was the hardest part, getting the glass off the headlight was easy.
The HID works well at night, although I haven't been out on the road at night yet... will post photos and story on the weekend about the HID.

Gary now that looks sweet, guess there will be a few like that around the members here soon Very Happy
Was it just very careful measuring & filing for the cuts then or did you make a jig on some kind??

Question Question Question Question Shocked Shocked Please tell me you didn't go to all that bother...the headlight can be removed without removing the fairing. I know it's true 'cos I did it following a bird strike.

The gloveboxes need to come out as does the 'W' shaped blanking piece on the fairing, under the lamp.

The only awkward part is accessing the central mounting screw underneath the lamp, as it's baulked by the fairing mounting frame, but it can be done from underneath using a small socket wrench with a short screwdriver bit in it.

Once it's out, the headlight can be turned through 90 degrees and extracted through it's own opening with minimal manipulation.

One of the guys in our club makes the trip over the English channel to France about five times a year, and swaps his headlamp over for one which dips to the right, as opposed to the English one which dips to the left. He's got it down to about 15 minutes a swap.

It took me 35 minutes when I did mine, but I'd never done it before.

I just marked them out with a tape measure and a pen, then filed them freehand.

Nice mod Gary...you could machine the cuts while the bars are straight, then have them shaped into curves. Nice job, you should market a kit.
