I thought it was the throttle lock, but when I took it completely off, it's still sticky.

Does that mean I need to replace it?

SW or BB? (BTW: You still need to put your bikes in your sig - SLACKER!)

I'd pull things apart and inspect.

Lube the tube.

Check the cable - it could be a worn cable lining.

Check that the grip rubber isn't rubbing against the master cylinder perch.

Never hurts to occasionally spray some WD40 on the TB springs.

does it stick when you roll on it? Or release it? Isn't the throttle cable the same as the clutch cable? Some kind of teflon lining that's supposed to last the life of the cable?

I dont understand this. Is the LCD toasteed on the clock or is it just not backlit??

The backlight and the clock are separate items.

Ok, the cable is fine.
It's the grip that's dragging with the cable not attached. Very Happy

Whenever I feel resistance I always think grip first.

I am particularly fastidious about throttle snap back simply because it is one of those devices that can cause serious bodily injury if it does not work right.

Well the heated grips weren't working anyway, and that just sealed the deal on them, but the problem is fixed.

Very free moving now Very Happy

Time to go to the store, fix supper, then put it back together.

I can't imagine the lcd is toast - let me know if it is. I imagine you just need a bulb. Depending on whom you talk with at Morton's, they'll sell you swampland in FL, bridges in the desert, all kinds of shlt you don't need.

Actually I have always ridden with a non-return throttle. Stretch an O-ring over the grip and let it sit between the grip and the control housing. Once you use one all the time it is a no-brainer, and NEVER had anything close to a situation where it was even a slight concern.

Think about it. When you want to decelerate, you don't take your hand off the grip, you roll your wrist up. Always keeping your hand on the grip. Unless you need to briefly use it for something else (in the same situation where you would use a throttle lock).

This might upset the safety patrol............

The issue is when you crash, are off the bike and the engine is running away.

I always keep a little tension on throttle return because I don't like the immediate deceleration. Seems like I'm always tweeking the mirror or doing something with the right hand just like the left.

"IF" I crash, I hope to be in one piece. The engine (and the entire bike, for that matter) is the least of my concerns at that point, a few thou $$ isn't of much concern when it comes to me vs. K1100RS. I am really not worried about a maybe (crash) as opposed to every day riding.

If I was worried about what might happen to the bike in a crash I wouldn't take it out of the garage.

If anybody crashes, what is their very first concern, body or bike? Having roadraced for 2 years, I know that it is BODY.

John

The issue is that you have 100 horsepower going to a wheel that's spnning freely and headed for God knows whom or where.. This is just plain dangerous, not only to you but to others as well.

If you're trapped under that bike unconcious, do you want the wheel spnning as fast as it can? If you've left the bike and it's sliding down the road, what's going to happen when that wheel, with OODLES of kinetic engergy, strikes something - stationary object, pedestrian, car, etc...

And what if, during the accident that wheel driven by a wide open throttle happens to hit you? Or You're stuck under the bike under a car. Do you really think it wouldn't matter to you to have that wheel ripping along out of control?

Even on the track, if a rider in front of you goes down, do you want his throttle returned or do you want to risk hitting his bike with his rear wheel spinning with the throttle wide open? If you tell me it wouldn't matter to you, you're either lying or not too bright.

You can't honestly think that it doesn't matter if your throttle is wide open after an accident, can you? Rolling Eyes

Yeah, I like a little tension on the throttle for all the reasons above.

However, this one had become very tight and fatiqued my wrist to ride.

Ok, up date: I pulled all the wiring for the heated grips completely out and off the bike. No point in leaving them on there. Swithch left in place.

The throttle lock now works as it should allowing me to controll how much tention I want on the throttle return.

Steve and I also replaced 5 of the saddle bag latches. They were either broken or failed to work for other reasons.

He finished wiring and mounting the new HID's.

I'm going to post all this in the Shop Whore thread so I can keep it all together.

Thanks. Really well thought out.

Do the research, check out the percentages of that sort of outcome.

Why do I think that if all sorts of crap is bent, twisted and mangled in some horrible, wrenching, stuck-up-under-a-truck accident that I don't expect the throttle cable/sheath to emerge intact enough to have some light force spring work as if conditions were just as the factory intended.

Knee jerk responses, no matter how many times someone has posted here DOES NOT allow anyone to state that a contributor is "not too bright"

I just deleted what I actually thought of your post, so I don't drop down to your level......
