Just thinking.. what are the tools / spares you find 'essential' for general maintenance and servicing and to carry along when you go out of town?
Since I'm no mechanic I carry some bulbs, a bit of cable, fuses a wirestripper, a swiss army knife and a plumbers wrench! Oh and a cell phone to call someone who might know why I'm stopped on the side of the road! Not that it happens often though..

Believe it or not I find the BMW tookit to be pretty comprehensive but I've added the following;
14mm spanner (for my lamp mountings)
Pair of long nosed pliers
Some cable ties (zip ties)
A Roll of insulating tape
A pair of small sidecutters (snips)
Two short lengths of wire
2 x spare bulbs of each type
Piece of rag
Half a dozen pairs of latex gloves
Wet-wipe sachets (from Burger King )
Home made jumper cables
Mini Compressor
Tyre pressure gauge and valve removal tool
A couple of Scotchlock connectors
Seems a lot but I've only included stuff which I've needed in the past, and it all fits easily in the bike tailpiece with loads of room to spare. _________________

OEM toolkit
(I forget the size but an Allen wrench for the final drive/swing arm pivot is added to the OEM toolkit.)
Homemade spare bulb kit
Assortment of fuses
Needlenose pliers
Electrical tape
Duct tape
12V LED with wires attached - for reading the diagnostic plug
1/4" ratchet and set of sockets
Digital multimeter
Buck version of a swiss army knife (it has a corkcscrew )
AA LED Mag-Lite with headband
Tire plug kit (although I have towing insurance and would probably use that)
Electronic tire pressure gauge
A picture of Johnny in a nice sterling silver locket
I always carry my swellphone on my person in the unlikely event I get tossed from the bike.
I also carry a plastic Coke bottle of motor oil and usually check the oil every morning. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
