Need a new battery for my K1100 RS 1996
What should I look for if I go to say Walmart, or Autozone or somewhere tomorrow?
How many Amps?
About how much should I expect to pay?
Anything I should stear-clear of?
I checked on the K1100 home page, Tech specs..... and Battery is listed as unknown....
Im not looking to mail order a battery, I need to pick one up in person....
any advice is appreciated...
thanks in Advance

Bill - unfortunately, I doubt you'll find one at Wal*Mart or Autozone. You are much more likely to find one at a business that deals with UPS (uninterruptible power supply) devices. Most batteries of this type will require post adapters.
I used to use the Panasonic 1228XP. The one I have now is the Odyssey PC680. Do a search for either one - if you're lucky, you'll find a dealer near you that's open tomorrow.
Good luck! _________________ Jim

And be wary of battery sites. Oftentimes they will have a picture of a Panasonic or other good name brand but are actually selling generics. Read the fine print. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I don't want to start a battery thread but I've been riding motorcycles for quite a while and have found Interstate Batteries to be very relaible and relativily easy to find. There should be a dealer somewhere close to you and you can find one on their website. They carry the sealed batteries that work in any position except upside down. Hopefully you won't get in that position. They aren't cheap though. Figure on a hundred dollar bill for one. That's my humble opinion. _________________ Jackson

go to the odysey battery web site and find your type...
goto ebay.com and look for the same one..
i got mine deliver to the door for about 85.00 usd.
after doing the research i settled on this maker because of the following
1) do not trickle / tender charge. only jump start and let the bike do the rest.
2) completely sealed ( battery was shipped via USPS)
3) has more amps during cranking / starting during cold weather plus tolerated deep cycling very well. ( think heated / auxillary gear)
4) when battery failes it give up the ghost like mist in the wind.
( coworker has 2004 k1200lt with 95k miles / he is on his 2 OEM battery. my battery will be into its 3rd season and still going) _________________ fix the problem not the blame ; fix what is messed up ; NO one is to blame. |

I'm going on my fourth year with my Odyssey battery. I keep it on the battery tender during the down months and the battery is still going strong. _________________ Rich

Hi Bill
I have used UPS battery, made in Taiwan for 4 years now. I usually run 15,000 miles per year at least. But I've never had trouble.
Many my friends who ride K also use UPS battery but no one had trouble.
See follow site.

Of course BMW dealer no recommended use UPS battery on mortorcycle but we take care of ourselves and own risk |

Hey, I found this battery online and was going to order it......
http://www.batteryspec.com/cgi-bin/cart.cgi?action=link&product=22&sub2=220010
I measured the dimensions of my battery, K1100 RS, and they seem to be the same dimensions.....
Can anyone tell me if this battery is decent and will fit....
But now that I have seen all the suggestions that you all have posted, I am going to keep researching it before I purchase.....
thanks in advance

humm...
when my westco was 5 years old... and still working fine... i passed on the less expensive motobatteries and went with a proven motobrick unit... the odyssey... i did so in avoidance of being stranded is some remote wilderness...
so far so good...

It'll probably fit. Is it decent? I can't say for sure, having never tried one. It looks like an el cheapo. Westco's are rebranded Panasonics. We know the Panasonic and the Odyssey are good batteries. The Odyssey is designed for extreme operating conditions. Personally, I would rather install a good batter than a cheap one. Just sayin'...

I'm an Odyssey/Panasonic/Westco fan. That being said, it depends upon what your needs and priorites are. If you plan to tour hundreds/thousands of miles from home and or live in aa extreme climate then it makes sense to get a good battery. If you live in a mild climate like Florida, use a battery tender and don't go too far form home than a cheapo might be a viable option. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Yeah, but you live in that honest "flyover" part of the country. On either coast they'll sell you crap batteries rebranded as BMW because that's where the margin is. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I don't know if I would go that far Duck,
a month ago I ordered fork seals and 'stuff' that was "in stock", 2 wks ago I call and asked where the stuff was. Was told waiting for 1 part to ship in. Didn't really need this part so I said to cancel that part and just ship what they had, still waiting.......
Temped to cancel the whole thing now and order from someone else. _________________ Ride safe.

We in this Tri-State area are really lucky to have this guy in Lake Crystal MN, to take care of us. They are about as honest, trust-worthy and knowledgeable as you get. _________________ 1993 K-1100LT. 1986 K-75C . 1992 K75RT. 1976 Honda CB 750A |
