Well, I couldn't bring my self to spend $35+ EACH for BMW fork seals from a dealer.
I started at E-bay with the listed add for cheap fork seals for the 16v bikes. Price was cheap enough, but WARNING, those seals are NOT for the 16v forks. They were 41.7mm x 55mm x 10mm. These are too thick for the 16v forks. The snap ring won't fit.
Our 16v forks take seals that are 41.7mm x 55mm x 7.5/10mm
What I found, this e-bay store is just a middle man, and they did exhange for the size that worked better.
Go direct here and avoid the middle man:

They were not a drop in perfect fit, BUT if you are ok with a dremmel or a flat file they will work.
What I had to do was file down about 1/2mm off the top and bottom of the outside edge where the snap ring sets in order to get the snap ring to lock in. Being careful not to nick the part that actually touches the fork tube.
For about $10 U.S. for the PAIR of seals and about 45 minutes of filing/dressing the results are good so far. Good fit and no leaks.
Note for you electrician types out there, the flat Die portion of a 1-1/4" knockout set works real good to put seals in with. _________________ Ride safe.

UPDATE:
I thought I would update this review since Drake and others have asked about these seals.
After about 6 months and 5K miles they started to leak.
It's possible that the leaks were from the edge not being truly flat and square, but I think that it's more the fact that the cheaper seal has less sealing surface touching the chromed fork tube.
I replaced them in the fall of '09 with the bmw (Marzoochi) spec seal. Been about 10K miles on the new seals with no leaks now.
Final opinion, don't waste your time with these e-bay seals if you forks require the snap ring to hold the seal in. _________________ Ride safe.

Hello . I bought a set of these then found out they are the wrong size, got in touch with them and they said they would mail out the thinner 8mm seals which I have been informed still need to be ground down slightly . The replacement seals never showed .They must be aware of the size problem by now but continue to sell the wrong seals. Ebay can be great but sellers like the one in the UK I delt with make it hard. My advice is don,t use PYRAMID seals who ever is selling them. _________________ 92k1100 lt with sidecar. 93K1100 CAFE..86K75C.95 k1100lt |
