My soopa doopa orange CATZ XLO lights showed up last week. I got my digital caliper out, did some measuring and headed to McMaster-Carr to order the hardware I’d need. The mounting of the lights was incredibly easy and only took a few minutes. Fortunately the wiring from my now removed WallyMart fog lights was just long enough to reach the XLOs so no rewiring was required.
(They are meant to be hung mounted so remember to pull the screws out of the side and flip the front ring and lens over so that the drain hole is pointing down.)
Here’s what was needed:
A) Two unthreaded 7/16” stainless steel spacers (one for each side) to go between the tangs. These were just a hair too wide but it only took a couple of minutes with a manual file to thin them enough to fit. $3.37 each

B) Two unthreaded 1 1/4” stainless steel spacers (one for each side) to move them out far enough to clear the fender. Things worked out best if I put split lock washers on both ends of these longer standoff spacers. I didn’t buy the lock washers. I had some lying around. These spacers cost $6.00 each.

C) Two M6x90 stainless steel cap head machine screws. I had to buy a box of ten for $11.36 so you could save a few bucks if you could find them individually for sale at a local store.

Inside the fender I re-used the factory washer and lock nut.
Note that you will probably need different bolts and spacers for an RS. Due to wheel width, you’ll need a regular hex head M6 machine bolt and you’ll have to drop the wheel and insert if from the inside. Also the RS has the front reflector held by that bolt so maybe a slightly narrower standoff spacer would peobably work.
That is all. Thanks for turning us onto these, JO. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Ride report, beam width and length at your convenience, sir. Did you tie them into the high or low beam and did you roll a relay for them or direct wire with a fuse? _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

I have my fogs(now the XLOs) tied into the low beam with a relay and my Hella FF50 driving lights wired into the high beam with a relay.
Not really sure on the beam width and length stuff. All I can say is that if you see them you'll want them. Having Johnny ride behind me was all it took to convince me to buy them. I got them mostly to be seen by sleepy drivers since that orange really stands out but I'm also quite sure they'll work great in bad weather/rain/fog. I'm sure JO has ridden in crappy weather with them.
Johnny went to Death Valley last weekend and told me something like 10 other riders inquired about them.
Buy a pair. You won't be sorry. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I've had a pair for months, but with the Motolites I have not felt the need to install more lights.
Slick install there tho Drake. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

very nice fdk11og... im gonna have to do it right with your kit this summer...
mystic red... i have these things on all the time... during the day they seem to get the attention of the autos... same thing by night + they give you some road illumination... not much... but some... and most importantly they do not shine in the eyes of the auto drivers...
the beam pattern is 90 degrees horizontally... the reflectors are designed to throw the beam on the ground directly in front if the lamp + throw the beam out and low to the ground... it is called a cut off beam... meaning it shines down and out... not up... they dont shine any higher than they are mounted... the distance of the throw isnt sufficient for deer illumination at night... but great for fog...
an auto with xlo ambers mounted low... shows how they throw down...
this shows the fog beam pattern... not the amber bulb... its a gold bulb... but the pattern is the same...

If you're using Microsoft Internet Explorer then you can do a File->Save AS and save it as a web archive file. Then you'll have it on your PC and it won't get autopruned away. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

You callin' me people? Them's fightin' words.
I use FireFox some but it seems to crash a lot.
I've tried Google Chrome too. Seems OK but haven't used it too much.
I used to be a heavy UNIX dude and do alot of sys admin on it. UNIX puts MS to shame.
I've thought about going Linux on one of my home PCs but I stick with Windows because it usually comes preloaded and there's so much freeware out there. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Mine used to, but not since the last update. If I want to save bits of this forum, I copy & paste it into word, then edit out all the HTML. _________________ Regards Tim,

Afternoon Mr Duck
I am using Ubuntu Linux and Firefox. No problems at all. My system is so much more stable than that MS ****.
Nice lights by the way. _________________ Ride safe

Why yes, they do as a matter of fact
Flying Duck, that's one real cool mounting system with the spacers and all.
