I am trying to diagnose an overnight drop in mileage to about 22 MPG. Reading all the posts on low MPG I believe I narrowed the problem to the bike running rich (pretty stinky) and think it is either the exhaust O2 sensor or the engine temp sensor. The Mototronic fault codes say "Oxygen sensor shorted to ground (2344) and Mixture setting at limit (2343)". So I thought it was the O2 sensor but following the diagnostics on the sticky the sensor reading is fluctuating between 0 - 0.7V which seems to say that it is OK. I can't get to the engine sensor without major disassembly and wonder if it is even worth the bother given the Mototronic readings. Other than the MPG the bike runs great.

Any hints?
Beau

I assume the engine temp sensor you refer to is the water temp sensor located where the upper coolant hose connects to the engine block.

The connector in the wiring between the motronic and this sensor is zip-tied to the left-side frame down-tube so you can access it by removing the left body panel. In a discussion on the tech forum last fall titled "New sudden death puzzle" I talked about how I tested mine. You can see it here: http://k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5376&highlight=

Maybe this helps, here you will find various diagrams with the wireing layed out, this could help you determine wichs pins to measure.
(to determine the resistance, should be high on cold engine and low on warm)
