So early tomorrow I hop on a plane and head to Charlotte, NC to complete the purchase of wera32's K1100RS.

Here's my plan but it may change due to weather or my whims:

From Concord, NC I'll wander over to Deal's Gap (just 'cuz I"m in the hood)

From there to Memphis

I'll probably slab it most of the way from Memphis to Denver across the flatlands but I'll check out the map for maybe some detours.

From Denver I'll pick up 40, ride up through Flaming Gorge Natl Rec Area

Then onto Hells Canyon, then Joseph and up Rattlesnake Grade to Asotin, WA

From there I'll be in WA and just wing it...

I hope I don't get lost....

I'm taking my laptop so I might be able to upload some pics from on the road when I can find some free Wifi.

Duck, you must be retired, although how I wonder at such an age. Taking on a cross-country trip just weeks prior to the Hungry Dungeness gathering.

It would also explain how you can do more mods on several bikes in a few weeks than I've been able to do on mine in five years!

Have a good trip, you're only 6 hours south of me at your starting point. I had to drive down there to buy my Silverado, as they had the one I wanted.

When you pass through Denver give me a call and maybe we can meet up. Wife is out of town so I have child duty but they are pretty big now and can fend for themselves. Arvada is a burb of greater Denver.

Don't have any runnable bikes right now. Getting the runner ready for the Colorado Beemers yearly rally in Paonia and my trip to Hungry Dungee.

The Duck rode off into the sunset at about 6:30. I really wanted to go with him, at least as far as the flatlands. It's going to be a good trip.

it says...

this is one fine motobrick-so fine that after deals gap i decided to take the north route through nova scotia-newfoundland-labrador-st johns is beautiful in the summer-if im not at the cabin when you hungree motobrickers get there-you know where the key is-fdk11og.

My moto_update:

By now I'm sure that wera32 has called the police because for what I paid for this fine motobrick I stole it.

Reflections on the K1200 engine in the K1100RS:

Not buzzy at all, like a K75 but with power.

Suspension VERY dialed in. I am VERY much at home on this moto.

Cosmetically very nice, better than either of my other K1100s. (Black final drive too, OTG. Very Happy

)

As JO posted, I may just stay out riding and never come home.

On Wednesday night, I got "lost" in South Carolina Very Happy

and ended up finding some very nice mountain twisties in the darkness of the SC hinterlands.

Finally ended up finding a cheap motel outside of Asheville at about 12:30am and having a cool refreshing nightcap before bed:

I found a nice covered spot for the new motobrick to nap as well:

Thursday morning I had a great run along 28 on the way to Deals Crap:

If Killboy ever gets around to posting pictures from 7/16 then you just might find some shots of me there.

From there, I mega-slabbed all of the way to rkildu's place in Conway, AR and showed up just before 11pm.

In the morning, I LEDified the cluster and swapped in a 12 hour clock as well as installing a cruise control unit because once you've had it you just can't live without it. It's like crack I tell ya.

Did I mention that rkildu has a wonderfully restored airhead in addition to his 97 Highline K11LT?

After a couple of hours of watching me butcher the BMW wiring, rkildu had finally had enough and, like a good sheriff, rode me out of town and warned me never to return:

I initially headed up 65 and it didn't take long until I became completely bored with that and decided I needed to get off of the pseudoslab and do so 'splorin' in The Ozarks.

And oh my, what a wonderful decision that was. I spent the rest of the afternoon experiencing MMOs (multiple motobrick organisms) as I tooled through the traffic free backwoods healing the RS over from side to side on tight sweepers and gentle rollercoasterage. It was a lovely afternoon of smooth swift turns and achieving complete oneness with the motobrick. I was smiling from ear to ear the whole way. THIS is what motobricking is all about:

Just imagine a few hundred pictures like those. The turns just kept coming and coming and coming..... Very Happy

I also managed to stumble across the only remaining ferry in the state of Arkansas:

From there it was more smooth tuns though the Missouri Ozarks and I ended up in Branson at bit after 9:00 where I found a cheap motel full of drunken hicks that had WIFI for my laptop so I stopped.

'Twas an afternoon of ultimate motobricking that I shall not soon forget.

In the morning, I'll stop by the Dolly Parton Museum of Big Boobies and then explore my way westward through southern MO.

Flying Duck Sighting in Arkansas

The Duck flew into Conway Thursday Night to the Kilduff Bed and Breakfast. In the morning I watched on awe as he performed delicate surgery and electronic wizardry on his new RS right there in my garage. Looking over his shoulder and lending a hand here and there I picked up several good tricks and ideas to borrow.

I them lead him through the downtown traffic jumble and north for a few miles to see him on his way. I would have liked to travel further with him but I need to get bike and gear organized to leave Wednesday for the BMWRA Rally.
