Discussion on another thread has got me thinking about the value of compiling a list and map of members willing to support a fellow member traveling long distance, mainly those willing to provide an overnight stay. If you were planning a trip you could look at the map and quickly see how you might plan a route. I’m thinking that since some of us might not wish to have that much information on a publicly viewed website, I could compile a list with contact information and a map with locations of willing members. I would then forward the information after a request by private message. If this idea is well received, I’ll move to the next step. _________________ Jim

Jim,
BMWMOA has something called an "Anonymous Book" (I belong and have this year's). It lists towns and MOA members (not names obviously) who will offer mechanical help, sleeping space, emergency aid, etc..
I keep it in the tail section of the K.
This might be useful for some who want to belong to the national -OR- you might want to compile a K11 version.
But a good idea.

Hi guys,
Here in NZ the BMW Owners Register puts out a biYearly Tour Guide which most members opt to have there details put in, it gives there name, there suburb, town, phone number and what services they are prepared to offer, which vary from a coffee and a chat, to workshop & trailer help, through to having a spare room available, I have to say it works very well but on the other hand isn't to be used purely as a holiday accommodation book.

I'm abandoning this idea due to lack of interest. _________________ Jim

Stick with it Jim it is a good idea but might take a bit of time to get it off the ground, thats always assuming that you have the time to give to it.

There is a company that does what you are talking about and the host promise you a bed and breakfest for like $10. If you travle alot and are also willing to host it might be somthing to look into. I like just finding a hotel when I get tired. Dont like planning how far I will get on any given day. The MOA owners annomous book is a great thing to carry in the vent of an emergency. I do carry it but have not needed to use it yet. (knock wood)
