My 1998 K11 had a grotty (Brit word for tired) strut. The silver paint had long since been replaced by rust. For £6 ($12) inc postage, I found an early solid cast example on EBay, described as for K100 / K1100. I hoped it would fit. When it arrived it was sprayed with Hycote steel wheel silver paint & lacquered. To my double amazement, not only did it fit perfectly, but the paint matched the original.
Hope this helps those who prefer NOT to have a BFD. Bonus, it's much easier to clean too.
