I just picked up a K LT and noticed more vibration than what I get when riding other's K's. Also the tank leaks fuel (I knew about it when I bought it). I traced out the leaks in the tank, and they were most likely caused by the vibes, but what is causing the vibes??? _________________ 96 K1100 LTSE

Welcome Dayrider! Soon you'll have a K11OG sticker for that bike!
There is a thread here somewhere for a guy that restores tanks. People have been happy with the results at a reasonable price.
Does it vibrate or buzz? What rpm? Not that this will help me answer your question but it will help someone who knows what he's doing. _________________ Jim

I had my tank coated and sealed by Eppa Wimbash in Richmond, VA. He charged me $80 for the work and I payed shipping to and from (I sent a prepaid bill of lading with the tank for the return shipping.) The tank doesn't weigh much, but it's large, so they get you with the "dim" weight. I think it cost about as much to ship it there and back as the actual work did.
No leaks and I got to keep my original tank which looked great on the outside.
The leaks are usually from water accumlating in the side lower corners and causing corrosion (not rust) there. Mine was a tiny hole, but it was getting bigger.
PM me and I can send you his email. _________________ Steve

$80 sounds like a good deal to me.
I've shipped a few K tanks in my day. Shipping it FedEx will most likely be cheapest. Keep the box size to a minimum or you'll get hit with oversized box charges. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

If you have a FedEx center near you. They are not as prominent as UPS for shipping counter service. _________________ Ride safe.

My plan is to gut the tank and kreem coat it.
As far as the vibrations... I haven't had it long enough (I've already started to disassemble and clean/lubricate everything) to say much more than it made my feet numb during the 90 mile ride home. The tank leaks around the welded tab on one side and a small nic on the other side. _________________ 96 K1100 LTSE

Hi, Dayrider,
I'm not saying it can't be done and I'm not saying not to do it. Just remember, you aren't working with a steel airhead tank with only one or two petcock openings. You have a fuel pump, a fuel level sender, a filter, fuel lines and an opening for the electrical connections. The Kreem cannot foul any of those. Make sure you (or whomever is doing the work) KNOW what you are doing and take whatever precautions so that things work the way they are supposed to work after the Kreem process is completed. Good Luck! _________________ Ride Safe,

Update:
I have completed half of my fix it plan with the tank.... It is sealed from the outside with comerical gas tank repair kit (works fine no leaks) and since it is covered by the heat insulation the repair isn't noticeable.
I now need some power windsheild bits ( the flexible lift rod from the motor to the left slide) im me if you've got one... _________________ 96 K1100 LTSE

There's only one motor that powers both arms. If the right side is going up and down then motorage is not your issue. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I thought the same thing, that the flexible spring assy was bad with mine as 1 side was slipping more than the other.
Determined that the tube was caked full of gunk and the resulting drag wore the motor driven worm gear.
Which, by the way, isn't available by itself. I had to buy a used motor assy to get it. _________________ Ride safe.

(sorry for digging up another old thread, but i figured better than making a new one to rehash the same thing.)
so i haven't done the throttlebody sync, but i have some questions about the types of vibrations we are discussing.
my bike has vibrations that are only in the handle bars at 5k rpm and above. but then starting at about 3k rpm to 4k rpm the bike seems to have a vibration that starts in the front and then as the bike goes from 3 to 4k it moves back on the bike until the bike becomes completely smooth at 4k.
i'm guessing that the slight vibration below 3k and that above 5k can be helped with the throttlebody sync and maybe some of those sweet looking salamander end weights. but with the vibration i mentioned above that moves through the bike be helped by that? what could cause that? anyone ever heard of that before? _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

The exhaust bolts to the left rear frame through a rubber mount. If this rubber bushing is hardened and cracked, as it was on my '95 RS, it can transfer vibration into the frame. A new one is only a few dollars online from Bob's BMW. You can look it up on their online parts microfiche. _________________ '95 K1100RS with only 47k miles |

TB sync all the time, While your at it raise the revs with the throttle and check that the butterflys are still sync'd, I noticed mine were out while doing the TB sync, not alot but 1&2 were higher vac than 3&4 meaning that 3&4 were at a higher throttle setting and doing more work. I did mine and it made all the difference. _________________ 1999 K1100LTIC Smooth and Quiet Cruise, BFD & HID
