Now that winter (cold but very little snow) is here I have started some overdue maintenance. Couple valves needed new shims, driveshaft has to be sent out for rebuild and suspension needs freshening up at both ends.
Plus a few other minor items fixed or replaced. And the usual annual fluid change.

But even though I keep the garage at 50°F, winter is cold and dark and the garage can be a lonely place. So.......

Yeah I know Jen's Kawasaki and Johnnie's Ducati are there for company but distant cousins aren't like FAMILY. So........

I got my RS a friend

It's an '04 "BoxerCup" ABS w/ 20,000 mi. and Wilburs F&R.

R-S owners (Audi, Rydor, Darryl and ?) with sharp eyes will see that the P.O. had flipped the clip-ons to above the top triple clamp- I'll fix that- too high.

So now the brick has a boxer to keep it company. Gettin' crowded in the garage. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Come on spring!!!

Guess we'll all just have to wait & see what makes it on down to Hungry Mother won't we?

I'm at work, so the pics are blocked. Does it have the stock muffler on it?

You be NICE in the park now ya here! Or da Sheriff will be a visiting again.

The BC is going to be my 1-up ride, while the brick will be doing the passenger duty.

So unless SWMBO backs out, we will be on the brick in May.

and we are trailering it there- I'll explain when we see everyone.

Ever since I rode with Darryl (NZ) down to Hungry Mother I have been looking for a clean R-S. Knowing that as time goes by these bikes are becoming less available, I looked closely at this one.

Now if winter would please leave........

"A man can never have to many toys" or so its said Smile thats a great looking piece of kit John, but I think Cathy would have a hard time hanging on to the back Shocked, so its good to hear that you are keeping the K, so now you have a foot in both camps ie: Boxer & K which is a good place to be Cool

Happy days are on there way Very Happy

John,
That is a beautiful machine. I can hear it chanting all the way in Ohio "Track Day, Track Day, Track Day".

Congratulations!

It has Laser mufflers without catalytic converter. Doesn't seem too loud at all for a twin.

Sweet! Looks like expensive fun, expensive as in tickets....

But I guess the cold will keep you out of trouble for a few.

It's been chilly here, but no real winter yet, a nice change from last year!

Steve,

Same here in northern N.H. It is supposed to be 45° to 50° here on Tuesday. Haven't had to clear our road yet this winter!

As far as the R1100S being fast/ticket magnet- it has just about the same horsepower as a brick (R has 98hp, a K around 100hp or so) but the R bike is about 80# lighter.
I think the weight difference will shows up most in the handling and with the "telelever" front suspension, brake dive is nearly absent Very Happy

Not a superbike but a bit more nimble than a brick in the twisties.

Today was the first ride on the R1100S

This might be one of BMWs best kept secrets!

Rode for about 2-1/2 hours. No snow left here but lots of road sand hidden around corners.

I think I have found a great combo. The K100RS will be our primary 2-up distance beast. Possibly solo in cooler weather. But when I go out on my own or with a few of the local BMW riders, the Boxer Cup will be my 1st choice.

Darryl,

GREAT to hear from you after your health difficulties.

NOW I know how you kicked my arse at HM III on those back roads.

A K bike will do the distance and carry the load but fun is to be on an R1100S.

See you next year.

John (& Cathy)

Hi John,

Yes the Boxer Cup really looks the part Cool and I imagine you will have some serious fun on it but it's good to know you still have a soft spot for the K Wink

I have to agree with Darryl that the summer here as really been crap with a fair amount of rain and high winds etc, but I have it on good authority that next year when you and Cathy are over the summer is going to be a cracker Very Happy

Remember, keep the sticky side down Wink
