|
|
Hey guys,
Everytime I relese the sidestand it 'clanks' really heavily into the exhaust pipe (see pix). Is this normal? Or is my bike missing a part like a 'bump stop' or something?
Because the stand rests right on the pipe when it's up, I can't attach a rubber stopper to it, or the pipe either. Has anyone else faced this problem? I can see some slight damage on the underside of the exhaust already and it's only going to get worse. Thanks in advance for any assistance
Chris

Yep you are missing the bump stop. If you look at your pics there's a piece bent with 2 holes in it. that's where the rubber goes.

The bracket welded onto the exhaust near the end of the stand should have a rubber bumper that the side stand and center stand hits. Look at the fische at Max BMW to find the part. look under exhaust system and it is # 7

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated...I will check it out when I get home later! I doubt I'd be able to get the part here, so I may have to fabricate one myself
Cheers!

Chris, I would think others could advise you on who will ship parts there but if all else fails, I or many others here in the US will help you get what you need. _________________ Jim

I'll look after work, I think I have an extra one new in package. My last order I got 2 and now that I'm going with the remus on the '95 I don't think I'm going to need it.
Or I have the old one that I put on the exhaust (exhaust now broken), this spring when I found it gone. _________________ Ride safe.

Mine was loose!
Not long after getting my 93 RS I was laying on the ground examing things underneath with the intent of lubing the center & side stands while the oil was draining. I noticed the bumper was kind of loose & dangling. I think it has a couple of nipples on it that are pushed through the support holes and that's all that hold it in place. I put a tie wrap on it, big black heavy one to help hold it in place.
Year later, still there & nice & tight. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Hey guys, thanks a lot for all the feedback, I saw the area last night with the 2 holes for the bump-stop on the exhaust, funnily enough I never noticed that before, then again I've never laid down under my bike before either...
Thanks for the offer Jim, and for the link BMGraeme, much appreciated.
Scott, if you have one spare unit lying around, I'd gladly buy it off you
Cheers guys!

Chris, check out that motoworks link above and see what their shipping would be to you, and/or their exchane rate.
I did a quick check and from the states for a small padded envelope would be about $10us for the mail service. _________________ Ride safe.

|
|
Good morning all...
I am a brand new owner of a '95 K1100LT, but have a '76 R100/7 and two other bikes as well. I picked up my K bike just this week and rode it 635 miles back home. Now I am looking it over in detail and see that the sidestand has some issues. First... when I set the bike on the sidestand, the lean angle is wicked !! Are these bikes supposed to lean over at such a steep angle ?? Second... I noticed too, that the sidestand clanks onto the muffler ( metal to metal ) and there does not locate into the rubber bumper located on the muffler bracket. Is/are there solutions to these problems or are they not problems at all ?? As a new member of this forum and a new "K" bike rider, I appreciate any and all info you can provide...
Thanks in advance......// Ernie in NH |

Hi Ernie - welcome to K11!
Yes, the lean angle is wicked... Some people freak about that, I've just come to accept it and plan accordingly when I park the bike.
You're missing the bump stop for the side stand? You can get that part for a few bucks. _________________ Jim

Ernie, Welcome to the asylum.
When I first got my '97 I had a similar issue with the side stand not seating into the rubber. Determined that the bushing in the arm was worn and the bolt was loose.
New bushing and a tight bolt and all is well. _________________ Ride safe.

Hi Scott...
As I mentioned, this bike is "brand new" to me since Tuesday.. Today I got under to look at the mechanics of the side stand linkage etc and could see right away that something is worn and I assume its the bushing you mentioned since it wobbles and wiggles... Taking your advice, and from what I saw, I have ordered the bushing and bolt from Chicagoland ( another great tip from you guys ).. I also commented here on the "wicked lean angle" when using the side stand, BUT apparently thats what was intended though it makes me uneasy... how about you ?? It also contacts the muffler ( metal to metal) nd it appears that a 'rubber' stop of some sort is missing but it does not show up on the fische that I can see. Do you know what this 'bumper stop" looks like ??
