Hey all,
Just thought I'd share some recent pictures with you; you're all getting the first look at these since the article isn't due out in the mag till December
I tested the BMW HP2 Sport recently. There are only 10 units of this limited-edition bike in the country, and this is unit 006 which belongs to the official importer. The other 9 were sold before they even got here. So even if I could afford the USD$47,000 price tag (did I mention that big bikes here get hit with 120% tax?), they aren't bringing in any more. They're not making them anymore either.
One of the things I loved most was the 'Gearshift Assist' which allows you to upshift (after 2nd gear and above 4000rpm) without closing the throttle or pulling the clutch. GA momentarily cuts the ignition between gearchanges. Rev it as hard as you want then slam it into the next gear. You can hear a 'boom' from the exhaust as it does this...Sweeeet!
It also has a vicious exhaust note which just makes you want to rev the hell out of it all day long. It's definitely not for long distance though, hardly any seat padding to speak of, but the handling around a twisty road just beggars belief. It's really light and agile too, carbon fibre is used extensively.
Had to give it back on Monday though, been sulking ever since. Haha! Well there's always the S1000RR, that's arriving here in Feb next year, I've already booked my test ride
Cheers!

Oh, I do love barely-street-legal bikes without passenger foot pegs.
But I would like to see/hear a video so I can better appreciate that exhaust note... _________________ tlp

Great pictures.
That BMW is very exclusive, isn't?
I never saw one here in Brazil.
Someday I'll learn to lean like that....

You're all more than welcome to come over and go riding here, the weather is usually pretty hot though so forget full leathers and bring Cordura or Gore-Tex riding gear instead
I'm only 13,000 miles away (as the crow flies) so yeah, you'd need quite a few vacation days! Alternatively, you could ship your bikes over a month ahead, fly over and ride. From here there are some amazing roads that will take you all the way to China, India and parts of Europe if you're up to it
A few months ago during a ride to southern Thailand, I met two European guys on fully kitted-out BMW 1200GS bikes at the Malaysia / Thailand customs and immigration check point. I asked where they were heading, and what I heard was "7-11", but what he'd actually said was "Poland". Actually, they were riding BACK to Poland, having left there last year, and riding all the way to Malaysia. I think they even went as far as Australia, after shipping their bikes over from Singapore. Awesome.
At the end of November this year, I'm heading to Chiang Mai at the northern tip of Thailand, which almost borders Myanmar (Burma). It's going to be quite an epic journey because we (about 25 bikes in total) will be hitting the infamous Mae Hong Son stretch near Mae Sariang which boasts 1,800+ corners within a span of only 200kms (approx 124 miles). It's an unrelenting series of corners that have to be ridden; it's like a rite of passage for a biker over here. You actually get a certificate if you complete the MHS route successfully. And yes, I'll be riding my K1100RS
Cheers!
Chris
P/S: so sorry, no video of me riding the HP2, and yes, I get a paycheck, haha Nice picture Rydor! _________________ "Ride hard or stay home..."

Thanks Gui! Yes, it's the most exclusive BMW bike over here, only 10 were brought into the country. Actually, I'm quite amazed we managed to get 10 units here.
Note that is says 6/11, or #6 of 11 units in Malaysia (MY), but there are only 10 units in the country...anyone care to guess how come?
Chris

Hello!
I will try to trace them back on Polish BMW motorbikes forum - it a fair chance that this trip was somewhere announced if Polish web sites...
Best regards,
Rafał
P.S. Awesome pictures. You are lucky, here in central Europe it is +3 C and first snow - much to early _________________ Rafal

Hello!
That would be so awesome; if you manage to track them down, tell them the 2 big biker guys at the Malaysia / Thailand border with bad hearing send their regards. Hope they got back safe
Cheers!

Whoa. That's a long way from Flying Duck's Used K-Bike Parts and Emergency Roadside Assistance.

We'll expect a well-documented ride report. _________________ tlp
