Saw a CL ad a few days ago. Kind of vague for a K75S with 44,060 miles and the guy was asking "something around $1,000." Of course this piqued my interest so I dropped the seller an email asking what year and did he have any pics.
Reponse was equally vague, didn't state the year, no pics and that he wanted to show it in person. I emailed him back saying I wanted to talk to him about it on the phone. No response.
The whole thing seemed a bit weird so it got me thinking. I Googled "Craigs List Robberies" and it seems as though the usual MO is for robbers to want to meet you in a public place and then rob you, often at gunpoint. They'll know you most likely have a wad of cash in your pocket.
I've done a moderate amount of stuff on CL (both ways) and this really never occurred to me. Then again, I don't buy expensive stuff on CL and don't go look at bikes unless I've talked to the seller on the phone ahead of time.
Just a heads up... _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Sounds like a good case for a sting operation. _________________ Jim

That's scary, it would not have occured to me either, except that I'd be suspicious of someone being so vague.
Thanks for the heads up. _________________ Steve

I look at a LOT of bikes and hopefully I am getting close to buying one
That said, I see CL scams all the time, usually though they involve a guy who just moved overseas and wants you to wire him the money and in exchange a "shipping/storage" company will deliver the bike to you will a full money-back guarantee. Of course there is no bike, no shipping/storage company, and the only 100% guarantee is that you are sending your money to some guy in an Internet cafe in London or Lagos and you will never see it again. Never, ever, ever, ever wire money to anyone - Western Union and MoneyGram ought to have signs on the door stating, "If you are entering here to send money to someone you don't know intimately you are being scammed."
Anyway, here is a funny thread:

I've been following one guy's use of an F650 to pull this scam. _________________
