I was poking around looking for TomTom freeware and stunbled across something called TYPE. (Trace Your Route Everywhere)
It's an application that runs on top of Google Maps, lets you plan your route and then load it into your GPS as an itinerary. Originally written by a guy with a TomTom Rider from The Netherlands to work with Google Earth but now runs on top of Google Maps and will load Garmins as well as TomToms.
I played with it this afternoon. Easy to use and a great little route planning tool.
It has some POI management tools too.

Cool! Thanks for the link. I don't know any Dutch, but it looks like he rides a K1100LT. _________________ Jim

Why download an app?
Gmap2GPX works pretty well (except for complicated or lengthy routes).
You make your route using the directions part (not the map part where you draw lines - that part's worthless). Then you click a saved javascript link and it brings up a web page with various options to save the GPX file, which you can then import into your Garmin. Most of the options trim data and only cause me grief, so I use full route.

Don't know much about Garmins. My 1st edition TomTom Rider doesn't do GPX and this tool lets me go straight from Google Maps to TomTom's ITN file format so it's convenient for me.
I do record my travels in GPX though with a background app running on the TomTom. When I was looking at Garmins none of them seemed to have adequate tracking for my needs. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I downloaded this program and would endorse it also. If you plug in a Garmin it automatically recognizes it and converts the menu options to Garmin. I plotted a test route with a lot of waypoints to keep me on the backroads I wanted and the only problem I had was it saved all the waypoints in my favorites, clogging it up until I deleted them. I think there's a way around this if I work at it a little.
Not as great a find as CL Reader but pretty nice! _________________ Jim
