Confused

Good morning all...

Saw this over on my Airhead list:
<<< http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9uLsMq7mBE&NR=1 >>
Cant imagine what this would be like when an ultra "high beam" freak pulls up behind you on a dark country road !!

Regards all.............// Ernie-NH

Interesting concept. Given the worthlessness of the RS mirrors, a set up like that would definetly be an improvement.

Would be interesting to see how popular they become here in the states, or what Snell and DOT think of them.

Snell and DOT don't care. They only establish test standards for helmets, they don't test helmets. Individual manufacturers test their own helmets and report compliance.

Why'd it take ten years and two million pounds? Seems like a lot of time and money to me. (Never mind, I Googled and it had some UK government funding.)

Looks prety cool though and a price point of $500 can make it competitive. I'll bet if the production volume went up with market acceptance that the price could even move down a fair amount to boot.

Not very useful for riding 2-up though. And what happens when the sun is setting behind you?

Supposedly will be available in the states Summer 2010. I wonder if it comes in different models/head shapes.

I don't have problems with the RS mirrors. They work fine for me, even with the larger Manic Salamander bar ends. Then again, I learned a long time ago NEVER to trust the mirrors and ALWAYS shoulder check. And if I had one of these helmets I wouldn't trust it either because you've still got blind spots on both sides.

My problem with the head check is:

I still can't see but about 3/4 of the way beside me.

It takes my view away from the real threats, in front of me.

I am a big believer in blind spot mirrors, have driven vans and trucks with huge blind spots for years, and have never been let astray by a blind spot mirror. But, the dinky little blind spot mirrors (1") I have on the RS are almost useless, still working on an improvement.

Between the vibration and the nice view of my bar end weights and gloves, I've concluded the RS mirros are great wind deflectors for my hands, after that, I can tell if a vehicle is behind me, but not what type (cop?) or what they are doing.

This helmet cam would be a big beneift in most of those situations.

Steve - notice that the helmet manufacturer still recommends a shoulder check.

ps - it's not a camera... it's all done with mirrors.

I found this helmet a couple of years ago by Googling. Can''t believe they aren't sitting on our shelves right now.
