Drake;Phill M or Jim,
Do any of you guys know if the lock will come out of the latch on the side cases on a 95 k1100lt or do I now have one key for the ign. and a different one for the side boxes?
At work last thur. a co-worker backed into my bike and knocked it over and busted the side case,r. mirror, big cracks in the upper farring and cracked r.lower farring.
Wanted to try to keep my case locks if I could.
thanks Keith |

Hi, Keith,
Yes, the lock cylinders can be removed from the latches. I have never done it, so hopefully Drake (Duck) or someone who has actually done it will tell you step-by-step how to do it. _________________ Ride Safe,

There's a little lock info here - not as much as I thought. You should be able to use the cylinder from your damaged luggage, or "rekey" the lock so it uses your ignition key - actually not that difficult. http://www.largiader.com/tech/locks/ _________________ Jim

There's a few write-ups on the IBMWR tech pages.

Keep all of the entire lock assemblies. And the little catches they hook on to. Just drill the rivets out from the inside.
Then go slap your co-worker. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I have removed many of the lock cyls. The first one is the hardest. Once you get the first one out you then see how easy it is. Just be careful that the last pin stays in place. If when the cyl is out the last pin pops out the cyl will not stay in the lock. It will pull out with the key every time you go to lock or unlock it. Once out it is easy to rekey to match the ign key. Alot of the older cases I come across only have 2 pins left in them. The previous owners just removed the pins and left just 2 pics which still will hold and is alot easyer to rekey.
