Hi, All,
Those of you who know me know that I am "frugal", or a cheap SOB, whichever fits. For quite a while I have been saying the Deutsch ff424 fuel filter from Auto Zone is a good substitute (at $2) for the BMW fuel filter at $32. The Deutsch ff424, made first in Israel and then Mexico, has been superseded at Auto Zone by the Luber Filter ff3424. It is made in China. You would think that, from China, it would be less expensive, right?? WRONG!!! I looked today and the ff3424 (still steel bodied - not plastic as some have said) has more than doubled in price to $4.49 and the box no longer contains clips, hoses, etc. as it did earlier. No thanks, Auto Zone.

I went to O'Reilly (formerly Checker) and asked about the filter. They looked it up and, lo and behold, THEY carry the Micro Guard #33032 fuel filter. It looks the same as the old ff424, comes in a box with clips and hoses, is made in Taiwan (NOT, apparently, Peoples Republic of China), and O'reilly's price in El Paso was $2.69.

As an aside, I also bought NGK plugs for my car. Auto Zone had them for $2.99 each; O'Reilly's had the same plug for $2.49 each. Guess which chain will get my business from now on. For those interested, O'Reilly's also carries Castrol 4T motorcycle oil at $3.99 per quart.

When the AutoZones here switched to a plastic one I started using the Napa 3032 which has a metal housing and is rated for FI systems. $7 or so.

Back in 2000 I remember when the BMW ones were overpriced at $15.

Hi, Drake,
With the similarity of the numbers (Micro Guard is 33032 and Napa is 3032), I wonder if they are the same filter, just in different boxes. Is the NAPA one made in Taiwan like the Micro Guard is?
