Just got a new plate for the bike, as it had not been properly registered. Bikes used to be very inexpensive to register. My new plate for year was $92.50! Granted that is for "new" plates (not a transfer). But....
The good news is that I got a memo from the DMV stating that due to budget problems that all DMV plates and fees will be going up on 4/1! Good thing I snuck it in.
Just a rant. _________________ 1994 K1100RS

Our yearly registration went from 14 dollars to 42.50. Per bike. Per year.
I guess hookers, blow and hotel rooms cost a lot of money. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Guess it depends on if your getting your share or not of the party favors as to how the costs compare.
I hear that chit IS expensive though. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Our yearly registration fee is $429.10, although that does include a Compusory 3rd Party insurance of $292. So I wouldn't complain too loud up there!!
The CTP is actually more expensive than my Comprehensive insurance for me and the bike!! Go figure! _________________ K1100RS '97

Having grown up in Queens I know the NYS DMV- those offices make the bar scene in Star Wars look calm.
Up here in the middle of nowhere I just give all my paperwork and a signed, blank check to the Town Clerk and in about 5 minutes she gives me back my reg with a receipt for what it cost. Done. And cheap. _________________ John & Cathy

I know it sounds petty, but like OTG said, in NY the renewals went from $19 to $62.50 (with the vanity plate) Thats a pretty good jump!
Sounds like they pay dearly in OZ.... _________________ 1994 K1100RS

Yep. In South Australia, 12 month rego for my K1100 is a total of $456, comprising:
Registration $33.00
Compulsory Third Party Insurance Premium $333.00
Stamp Duty on Insurance $60.00 (a tax)
GST Component of CTP Insurance $27.27 (another tax)
Emergency Services Levy $24.00 (my contribution in case someone needs an ambulance or a fire engine)
Administration $6.00 (to cover the cost of processing my rego)
My Jeep, OTOH is $633 for 12 months
Registration $99.00
Compulsory Third Party Insurance Premium $444.00
Stamp Duty on Insurance $60.00 (a tax)
GST Component of CTP Insurance $36.36 (another tax)
Emergency Services Levy $24.00 (my contribution in case someone needs an ambulance or a fire engine)
Administration $6.00 (to cover the cost of processing my rego)
Car rego here is based on the number of cylinders only - the Jeep is a 4 cyl diesel.
Once upon a time, a large motorcycle >250 cc used to cost a lot more than a car; things seem to have changed a bit. _________________ David, owner of:

I did not include insurance on mine, even though it is required I consider it second. I pay $150 a year for two bikes.

Trailers are just as bad. Try 100.00 per yr for a 16ft enclosed. _________________ Eric Johnson
