Well, it's not the plug in connector. While I'm waiting for the a new connector from EB, I decided to just cut the old one off and direct connect the wires, it didn't work, still getting no conectivity between the green wire and the solder joint where it becomes the yellow wire (to the fuel pump).
So, the issue must be in the wire or more likely in this connector,
But I don't see where this can come off, it's seems pretty permanent.
Can I get a new wire with this connector, or do I have to get a whole new sending unit and replace the whole thing?
It appears to be a whole unit for $104.00 from Max. No. 10 in this diagram.

Replace the sending unit....I'm still thinking motronic plug, but then again I have not been riding enough to see if mine is really fixed. Drake should have a replacement. Does anyone have a sender out, that they can check the wires before replacement?

Well, I think the motronic is fine because I always get the 12v signal for 3-4 seconds beween the green wire and the brown coming from the motoronic when I turn on the key. But the continuity bewteen the green wire and the sender unit has been in and out, corresponding with the pump not firing up. _________________ Steve

Found a used unit for $45 on Ebay and he also had a clutch cable which I've been meaning to get as a spare. So I bought them both.
Hopefully this will cure my bikes issues.
I'd like to ride to HM without constantly worrying about when it's going to die next. _________________ Steve

I did not know you were getting that 3-4 second signal from the motronic. I would tear apart that white connector (after the replacement arrives) just to see what it looks like in there. Mine has a black tie wrap on the end of it? (around the wire) maybe as a strain relief...more likely someone has been there before me.

When you 1st turn on the ign key there is a 3-4 seconds time that the pump runs to precharge/pressurize the system. This comes from the motronic. _________________ Ride safe.

Still waiting on my new fuel gauge/sender unit (used from Ebay).
Decided to thoroughly destroy the old unit to see what makes it tick, not much apparently. It's just a molded plastic plug with metal tabs running through it to eventually connect with the soldered connections to the fuel pump and gauge.
So, it definitely is not fixable/repairable/monkeywithable. I'm still not sure where the break is (was), but hoping the new unit will solve the problem, stay tuned... _________________ Steve

Yea, tell me about it! But I'm darn sure not riding that far out with this issue not resolved. The new unit ought to be here mid-week and then I'll have a few weeks to road test it. _________________ Steve

Great photo. It looks like a pretty robust design. I would feel better if the pins were corroded or something...What do the wires look like leading up to the connector? Since you have come this far in the forensic investigation? Good luck. You have obviously been thorough. The new part should fix it all up. _________________ 1994 K1100RS

Looks like the short broken tab was your problem, unless you broke it in the process of disection.
Most anything can be fixed if you want to bad enough.
Put yourself some small metal strips thru to the solder joints on the inside, then solder your leads on the outside, and epoxy the whole outside to seal it.
Or just do what you did and buy a replacement. _________________ Ride safe.

I'm think I broke it when I broke it apart, it was not a gentle procedure...
The wires going into it look fine, I am getting a reading between the green wire end and one of those longer tabs you see, the issue must be in the where that tab meets the solder connection.
I'm done fixing, moving on the replacing! _________________ Steve

Gday Steve, this is getting bigger than Texas. Good luck with the sender unit. I'm a bit doubtful about it. If it does'nt work can you borrow a motoronic unit just to swap and try. Some weird stuff happens inside that little box.

I'm not 100% convinced it's the sender either, but I've always gotten a proper reading at the plug from the Motoronic, but sporadic readings from the tank plug connector to the fuel pump. So I'm betting my money on it for now, we'll see.... _________________ Steve

Happy day! Got my new (used) fuel sender unit in the mail today. As shown in this photo, it's in much better shape than my old one. The connection tests good between the green pin and the yellow terminal end. My wife asked if that was a part for my motorcycle or the toilet!
The only bad news, during my search for the issue, I cut off the factory connector (not the problem) and now I'm waiting on the new connector from Eastern Beaver. Man how I wish I had not cut that off as the new sender unit has the factory plug and now I have to cut that off and install the new EB plug. Had I kept it on, I could have just plugged the new sender unit into the original plug! Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20.
I tried to re-use the old connector, got the sockets pulled from it, but when trying to undo the crimps, one of the connectors just broke in half, so much for that idea, unless I could get a new factory connector or the socket leads that fit into it?
So now I'm just waiting on that new EB connector,(tomorrow hopefully) and then I'll be back in action! _________________ Steve

What would have been her responce if you had said, "Yes dear it's for the new electric toilet, We have been selected for a beta test site." _________________ Ride safe.

Probably 20+ years ago my dad told me to go to a place to wire up a toilet seat.
I said "WHAT?????" , yep, this guy had an electric vent fan on the back of the seat to exhaust the stink when you set on the seat.
And you were right about the money.
This guy was the founder/president of a local aluminium/zinc die casting foundry. Money was no object.
Which has since been sold twice and now closed down. _________________ Ride safe.

An even happier day, got my new fuel tank connector from Eastern Beaver, hooked it up, plugged it in and the fuel pump whirred to life, and the bike fired right up!
Went out for a short 15 mile ride and all seems to be working well. I'll feel a bit more certain after a few more rides, but I think I got the problem resolved.
For those just tuning in, I had a break in the wiring somewhere in the fuel tank sender unit that also has the wires to the fuel pump going through it. When it would fault, the fuel pump would not function. A used fuel sender unit that I got on Ebay for $45 solved the issue (I hope.)
A few farkle goodies courtesy of SugarHill's abandoned and forgotten RS and she's now touring ready!
