(UPPP) for short.

Fudge it all!!

I can't even pronounce the damn word.
But I'm seriously considering it.

In the past year, my snoring has gotten horrid. I wake myself up and God help Steve. He wakes me up all the time.

Looking back over my life there were clues like dozens of wrecks I wrote off as be a distracted driver. (and speeding in some cases)

Daytime sleepiness, that I wrote off for being a night shift worker.
It’s become very bad this year.

It could also explain some of my weight gain.

But as of the last 6 months it's has come to the for front as lack as energy, mental fatigue, general, ill-directed angst, and piss poor sleep patterns.

UPPP is considered one of the most painful surgeries

The up side I’ll be able to give serious deep throat after I’m all healed up.
And could avoid be dependant on a CPAP the rest of my life.

You should get checked for sleep apnea as well Gwen. Puts a huge strain on your heart. Have you tried remedies like breathe-rite, mouthguards, etc?

Yeah, I know. I preach it all the time at work.

I'll be making a sleep study appt this week.

I tried taping my mouth shut with paper tape.

Mouth pieces.

And this...

I no longer need Breathe Right strips s/o my septoplasty last year for a severely deviated septum.

Another thing, my Asthma has progressively gotten worse over the past two years. I'm now on Advair, Nasinex, Astlin, Singlair, and albuteral MDI. My pulmonologist is considering adding Conbivent MDI. Evil or Very Mad

I wheeze at some point everyday. Sometimes for hours.

My exercise tolerance is in the toilet.

Have your house checked for mold. I'm serious. Asthma does not just get progressively worse, something is triggering it.

Thanks, the house is three years old and smells free of mold.
I have super good filters on the AC/Heat ducts.
There is no dampness anywhere in the house or basement.

Keep in mind I lost 10%-25% of my lung volume from my spinal fx in 2007. My AP measurement has increased due to the 50% anterior compression of T6 and T7.

I'm hoping so.

FWIW "AP" in this context refers to the distance from the spine and the sternum. The great the distance, the less air movement capisity.

I believe any surgery should be the last resort because they often come with side effects or complications. As an asthmatic I also have had to deal with things that make it worse and I usually find it is environmental - I have a big problem with dust mites, pollen, diesel smoke and ozone from vehicles. Oh yeah - beer and wine not so good either : (

The generally bad air here in Sacramento (7th worst in the country) and the Central Valley is really bad for me but my job is here at the moment so I try to deal with it. I l live on the southwest side where the air is better, workout early in the day in the summer, etc. Yoga helps, a good diet helps, losing weight helps...

When I lived here previously, in the 90's, my symptoms gradually got worse until I moved closer to the coast, to the SF Peninsula where there is much cleaner air. My asthma virtually disappeared for the 10 years I was there. Now back in Sac for 3 years the symptoms are gradually returning, so I am hoping to be out of here by Fall.

Maybe you can look at the environmental factors, your diet, etc, and find a workable solution. Wish you the best Gwen - I have enjoyed all your journals and the contributions to this site.

John

Wasn't about 3-4 yrs ago the time frame that the contaminated "imported sheetrock" was on the market?
I can't precisely remember but I was thinking it was not long after some of the south and eastern hurricanes and floods.

Still wouldn't hurt for a professional inspection if possible.

Do any of your symptoms get better when you leave or worse when you are home.

We've had a bunch fo the "chinese drywall" cases here.

It's pretty easy to check, go up in the attic and and pull away some insulation from the ceiling and look at the labels on the back of the drywall. I'm sure there are some references on the net about who made what when.

It was '06-'07 when most of that ocured. Due to severe shortages, suppliers imported it from China to meet the demand.

Gwen,

Sometimes along with the obvious trauma to the spine, rib movement is compromised by resultant joint dysfunction at the rib/vertebra and/or rib/sternum articulations. That can inhibit normal respiration movement of the ribs causing decreased lung functional volume. Something to check into before anyone cuts.

Also as a society many of us slowly become more "scapula breathers", with less rib and diaphragm use.

I see both of these situations in my practice. Maybe you might want to find someone in your area could help with this.
