So I was riding into work today, the meter went up to the red, so i tapped on the meter and it jumped straight back to where it should be. Watched it closely over the next few hundred yards and it went back up again bit by bit, tapped it, back down again. So it looks like something loose in the meter itself. Looks like I'll have to take it apart!

Before you rip it open, check the earthing of the meter. My petrol gauge did the same, giving different readings if the lights were on. Also check for trapped / shorting cables in the area.

My temp gauge did exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I "fixed" although I'm not quite sure what I did to fix it.

I was filtering through the traffic and smacked a car with my mirror, suspect he wanted a closer look at dem gold wheels. The mirror popped off and was saved by the newly fitted bungee's. a couple of K's later the temp gauge went to the red.

When i got home from work i looked at the wiring around the gauge and it seemed fine, then when i fiddled with the gauge it started reading correctly. I just loosened a couple of nuts on the back and retightened them.

Its OK for the best part of a 1000km, it does seem something wasnt happy with the jolt when the mirror got smacked, I'd love to know just what it was.

Looks like the process of pulling the meter out and putting the FD led backlight in has disturbed enough things to make it work properly yesterday Smile

Thanks all, at least I didn't need to get crashed into Laughing Laughing
