I've just run some tests, and the tail light wire is only putting out 2.4 volts and the brake light terminal is only putting out .24 volts.
I'm wondering if a bad BMU could cause this type of behavior, and if so, where the heck is the BMU?
I think I just want to bypass it, as I'm putting in an LED replacement anyway.
Thanks in advance for any help.
EDIT: Okay, already found the BMU. I'm going to use Flying Duck's guide to disabling it and see if that works. _________________ 79 Honda CB750 trainer

Relay box - left side in front of fuse block - black.
Remove it. Test the gray/white wire for 12V (tail light power from #2 fuse) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Here's what I've found:
The tank appears to have a small leak in it somewhere right over or around the fuse box. I'm going to have to remove the tank, and clean everything out thoroughly, and patch the tank so it doesn't leak. There's gunk everywhere. I've already pulled off most of the fairing pieces and I suppose just as well since I'll be upgrading the headlight to Bi-Xenon HID and taking the forks off for new seals.
Oy.
So far, I have replaced both tires.
I replaced the horrible (for me) Corbin saddle with a new OEM saddle I got on eBay, that (for me, again) is much more comfortable. If anyone is interested in the saddle, let me know.
I've flipped the rubber covers on the footpegs upside down, which lowers them about 6/10ths of an inch. No one makes adjustable pegs for this bike, apparently.
I've rebuilt the rear master cylinder and replaced the original brake hoses with Spiegler's on the rear. Front master scheduled for rebuild along with brake hose replacements, all in the box and ready to go.
One of the forks is leaking oil, the parts are in, and I'll be taking the forks off and to the stealership end of next week for the repair.
Pretty much all of these things could be expected to have to be replaced after 17 years, so it's not that big of a deal IMO. I'm upgrading where I can, and learning about where everything is, so that's a plus.

Wow, interesting post. Several things sounded familiar.
Fuel tank leak, I had a small corrosion leak in the lower left corner of the tank, just above the fuse panel. Turns out that water in the tank will collect there and eventually cause corrosion. I had the tank relined with a cream type sealer for about $85.00.
Interesting idea about flipping the peg rubbers to "lower" them. I've been a bit cramped on the RS in the leg department. I just got a new Airhawk cushion seat (review to follow after I ride) and it seems to raise me up about an inch or so which I'm hoping will help with the leg room and the Corbin rock hardness.
Rear brake, mine's dragging and although I disassembled and cleaned the caliper a few weeks ago, it's still dragging and I now have a rebuild kit on order and hope that will cure the stickyness. New brake lines are next on the list.
Ahh, the aging of this bike is getting tiresome.... _________________ Steve

Yes, the repairs are a bit more than I bargained for, but as I said, these particulars are expected to be going or gone at this age.
As for the peg rubbers, I tried pulling them off completely, and within a few minutes nicked my shin and broke the skin (through my thick jeans, mind you) on that sharp edge near the tip, so the rubbers went back on upside down to prevent future punctures.
That 6/10ths makes a big difference if your knees or hips are old and creaky. _________________ 79 Honda CB750 trainer

I started cleaning out the gunk from the leaky tank in my fuse box this evening.
Once I had cleaned up the outside of the BMU, I pulled the case off and saw the problem. Inside there are three fuse straps on the PCB, each protecting a different set of light circuits. The one for the brake light was blown, no doubt from the mess inside.
So I brought the circuit into the house, set up the soldering iron and made a strap across the backside of the PCB, since I can't replace the fuse strap. Works like a charm. Saved a trip to the stealership and $72 or whatever the going rate is for the BMU.
In the photo, the purple arrows point to the two intact fuse straps, and the red arrows show what remains of the one that didn't make it. Now I'll spend a few more hours cleaning out the rest of the mess inside with isopropyl alcohol. _________________ 79 Honda CB750 trainer
