Rear master cylinder has started leaking now that I have things fixed with the front brakes.

Stupid question, but consider the source, how do you unattach the clip holding flexible line from reservor to the master cyl. without destroying it?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Bob

I think it's one of those oetiker type clamps. Like the ones on the fuel lines and TB boots.

Unfortunately they are a 1-time use clamp.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I remember about them.

You will have to destroy the clip, and replace it with a small spring clip or hose clamp style clamp. No worries, it's the resevoir gravity feed line and not under pressure so a spring clamp works fine. Or, pony up for the crimp tool and use a factory crimp clamp.

Sometimes you can pull the hose off without removing the clamp, then recrimp it with pliers during reinstallation.

Thanks for the replies, I have some really small hose clamps that I'm sure will work.

I may make HM yet.

If you're just rebuilding it with the kit from Beemer Boneyard, you don't need to remove that. You can do the rebuild with it still attached. ou have to drain the system anyway, so...

In my experience you don't need to remove it. A lot of the time it's just crap that has dried up and leaked in the MC. Pull the set screw, clean up the bore with some steel wool, clean off the rubber seals on the piston and all is well. You don't even need to buy a $50 rebuild kit.

Be careful if you rebuild it to make certain the pressure relief port is clear. It will clog easily and the caliper will seize.

Got everything apart and cleaned up. Did not have a rebuild kit. The nastiest piece was a little plunger with an o-ring in front of the piston.

Took a long test ride and everything looks dry. Heading out to HM at first light tomorrow. May the hawk be with me.

Thanks for the advice.

Good on ya mate. Take an 11mm wrench with you just in case the rear end locks up, you'll need it to loosen the brake hose bolt on the caliper to release the pressure...no need to ask how I know.... Rolling Eyes

Definitely, with all the brake problems I've had lately.

Did you get to keep the Quail sign? Maybe we'll run into you at Redmond.
