Went to get some rubber bits at the stealer. Really wanted to try out the S1000RR demo bike but somebody else had it out. Dang. Might as well take the red K1300GT out for a spin.
My impressions:
Brakes: Awesome. You could bring this bike to a quick stop with your pinky.
Engine: Definitely smooooooother than our bikes. It'd be pretty easy to get tickets on this thing. I looked down and was doing 20 over riding mellowly.
Torque: LOTS of it. A bit too much if you ask me - especially for city riding - twitchy would be a good word for it. Seems out of place on a touring bike.
Shifting: Very easy, especially with the hydraulic clutch. For the life of me I could not get it to go into N from 2nd. (At stop lights I usually am in second when I stop and then shift to N once stopped.) I wonder if BMW designed it that way. Clunks into first when taking off.
Seat: Standard BMW 2x4. What the hell is it with BMW seat designers? Do they get kickbacks from Corbin and Sargent or something?
Styling: Every time I looked down I felt like I was looking at something from a bad 1965 Japanese sci-fi film. Maybe some people like it but the Jap styling does absolutely NOTHING for me.
Cruise control: Slightly jerky. Not as smooth as the Audiovox on my bikes. Probably has something to do with the amount of torque the bike has.
Weight: Didn't feel as heavy as our bikes.
Bottom line: If somebody gave me one I'd sell it and buy something else.
I didn't get a chance to take it on twisties or sweepers and despite the other misgivings I have about it I'm sure it would probably perform well there.
Now I need to find another part to buy so I can ride the S1000RR. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

OK, I'll give it a shot at replying.
I was attracted to the GT some time ago. I was looking for a modern version of my K-RS. Maybe a bit more 2-up friendly and with many more aftermarket parts being available. Read a bunch, asked current owners lots of questions. Was leaning towards the BMW.
Bottom line was a Cycle World article comparing the GT and the Kaw Concours. They were not too far apart in many aspects, except in one- price.
The C-14 was just about half the price of the K1300GT and a friendly Kaw dealer was 15 minutes away, while MaxBMW is 2+ hours south. Would have liked to have a GT in my garage but $$ and dealer location were the deal breakers.
Now if you or I do an S1000RR test ride both our posts might be right out the window...... _________________ John & Cathy

I need a couple of gas tank clips for my project K75.
My dealer is a 6.7 mile ride from my house. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Nice review.
I've always wanted to test ride a K1300GT. I like the bike, but the price is prohibitive, especially considering the competition. Given a choice of BMW, I 'd go for an RT. _________________ 2000 R1100RT
