2007 Yamaha MT-01.

Met an English bloke from Ontario Canada riding this thing near Asheville NC this weekend.

Meet the "Thunder Child"

Has the 1600 cc V-Star engine.

Another bike Yamaha never gave the US a chance at. I think they would have sold a few - Buell sold quite a few of their version.

Quite a few over here in the UK, apparently they didn't sell over here as well as expected and can be had quite cheaply second hand?
I quite like them but not so much i've investigated the claims in any detail. I think Yamaha were trying to cash in on the Buell popularity.

Yep, quite a few here in OZ, They have gobs of torque, more than a Buell by far, and reliable as well. Not very comfortable for long rides though, very much a weekend cafe racer, but awesome to ride.

Good morning all...

That "selective marketing" denies a lot of us access to bikes we would either like to try or buy... The Honda Varadero is another one not available here in the USA, but one I have rented and really enjoyed in Europe.. Too bad they quit on the Trans-Alp as well....

The Africa Twin never came here to OZ either, Apparently they were made specifically for europe to cater for the dual purpose market boom there.

We do get the Varadero though.

Yamaha MT-01, Honda XL 1000 Varadero, Honda XL 700V Transalp, Honda XRV 750 Africa Twin... All are (or were) available here, in Portugal. I guess we're lucky, market wise! Smile

As for the prices of new motorcycles and taxes we pay for having a bike, well... not so lucky. E.g., we have to pay a yearly "circulation tax"; I can tell you I pay almost as much for my '95 K11 as for my 2.0 car from the same year!... Also, no discount for bikes on highway toll, unless you have an electronic device (and still, there some exceptions).

Well, at least we have good weather... Rolling Eyes
