|
|
Hi Folks,
I mirrored the current boards with a new install of the latest PHPBB package, it is here:
http://www.k11og.org/phpbb3/index.php
These boards will eventually be deleted!
When the new install is troubleshot I will delete the dB and re-migrate the current boards over so hopefully nothing will be lost in the transition.
Please use your login and password to go check them out and let me know about any bugs or issues you might find. In other words, please try to break it
Thanks!

I'd check out the search function--using the search term "drake" I got a null result. _________________ 1993 K1100LT (Washington)

i am a fan of upgrading the boards!
some suggestions:
-find a template that has the user names on the left hand side of the post.
-find the mod that adds embeddable youtube support
-maybe transfer the current icons over to that version also. i like these better. _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

Nice looking site. Worked fine for me during a quick tour.
Agree about the Name and Avatar being on the right is kind of funky, I prefer the left as well.
Everything else looked pretty good, a bit odd as any change in a site I use so much seems strange, but I like it.
Thanks Ted for keeping us on the current (or at least more current) edge of things. _________________ Steve

With this new board you can set it one of several ways - including the current look and feel - go to...
User Control Panel
then
Board Preferences
then
My board style:
Subsilver is the style of the current boards, Prosilver is the style of the new boards. _________________

Great new forum format, Ted.
But then it REALLY looks familiar
http://www.1400gtr.org.uk/forum/
It is one of the 2 Concours boards that I have been on, so I have become acquainted with how this template is set up.
I'm good to go for the change.

Am quite happy with the boards as they are laid out so can't really add any thoughts on improvements but I do like the colour of the new one, makes it look brighter and fresher. _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed or numbered! |

One of the UK sites I used to use had Issue 3, I gave up visiting as unlike this one, it didn't have the "view next topic" at the top of each page. Or is it just me, who hasn't found it yet?
EDIT, if I set it to Subsilver, the buttons magically reappear.
Certainly quicker at displaying pictures too.
Thanks for the efforts Ted, not an easy task. _________________ Regards Tim,

Looks good - a nice freshening of the format - cleaner look and more readable.

i had forgotten that the new php boards allow the customization. the one downside to that is if your chosen layout doesn't match the default you still have to see the default before logging in.
also, phpbb3 plays much nicer with webkit based mobile browsers -- it actually updates and lets you know when you have visited a thread. no more phantom unread threads! _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

I second (12th?) approval Ted.
Seen template before on other sites. Not really sophisticated enough to offer help but then I can get used to anything. Even right side avatars. May be better since long posts don't go off the page???
Thanks for your work on upgrading site. Appreciate it.

So do you.
I like it Ted!
I have a couple of quections:
Will it have the feature to search by "Threads started by user"?
Should I back up on my computer anything I want to "not lose" like my RR and Tech threads?
Let me add I like the 16v/8v subforums _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Spell check would be a cool feature, is that doable? Then I don't have to copy to Word to see how badly I spell! _________________ Steve

Upgrade to Firefox and use the dictionary addon Spellcheck as you type (which is currently telling me addon and spellcheck are wrong!)
And a little Google-fu tells me there is an addon for IE as well - http://www.iespell.com/ _________________ David, owner of:

......
G'morning Ted...
Nice layout and colors... however as an "old fart" I find it distracting to have the Avatars on the right ! Also where is the PM access button ??
Also like the separation between 16V and 8V.... Despite that, I am still interested in any/all 8V questions and problems, and tend to read everything.
My....$0.02
