|
|
While I'm waiting for the new bushes to arrive for my K11 I decidd to fit fork boots. I know how everyone uses the Rancho 1952 boots...but they are not obtainable here in Souf Afrika.
After scouting round a load of bike shops and 4x4 accessory shops with no luck one dude suggested trying a steering rack boot.
The local spares shop had a unversal type for $3 which fits a treat when cut to its largest size.
Photo's will follow when the bushes arrive and the bikes back on the road.

search for previous posts-been discussed already
Don't forget to put a small hole in the boots, at the back of boot,to allow for air expansion.
Red hot small nail at the back did mine. |

|

Venting needs to be done if they are well sealed, or should be done so the keep their shap or the fork action sucks them right in. Don't ask how I know.
I was not satisfied with a plain hole as I thought it could suck in dirt and or water even when the hole is on the back of the boot.
I made a small hole on the second from the top coil, bottom decending slanted area.
I then used the inside of a ball point pen and cut a 1/2" section at an angle on one side. I then inserted the angled portion first for 1/4" and Super Glued it in place. Only took a bit of glue.
Super clean vent hole, I've ridden in a couple of torrential down pours and no water get's in.
Just another idea, not knocking anyone. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Thanks for the advise.
Boots are fitted and looking good
Vents were made near the bottom on the underside of a fold.
Not bad for $3 per leg.
Update.. the cable ties have been removed from the bottom and some good looking hose clamps fitted. They cost a whole $2 each.
Here's the ol bird showing off the new boots at Sundays Classic Bike meeting. Now her older K75S sister now wants a pair.
