Picked up a damaged K1100 fairing at a flea market. Mirrors are in better condition than mine. Problem is can't remove the mirrors from the damaged fairing. The nuts just spin - is there a secret to getting them off??

The mirror housings just pop off and then you can hold the stud with a screwdriver from the outside. Have someone hold the fairing and then give the mirror housing a good thump from the bottom with your hand. Don't forget to catch it when it goes flying.

Hold onto it with one hand and smack that hand with the other. Smack it from the front to the back at the outside edge. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

The absolute easiest way to remove the mirror for me is as follows.
Left side mirror.
Stand on left side of bike facing forward.
Line up right hip with mirror.
Walk forward and bump mirror as if you did not see it. Be prepared to catch or cradle it.
Pops off easy every time, especially if you are in the garange getting other tools or equipment or just passing by to get something else from the garage. Doubly certain if you already have your hands full of gear.
Switch sides of bike and hips for the right mirror.
Repeat. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

The LT mirrors are a little harder to pop off than the RS ones. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Don't worry about that. It's common for them to come apart like that. A little bead of epoxy will glue that halves back together again. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks for all the input - a little more muscle hitting them and they popped right off. _________________ 1997 K1100GT |

The first one I took off, smacking from front to back did the same thing. I wapped the other one from the bottom and it came right off without drama and it seemed like less force. _________________ 1993 K1100LT

Find a Mitsubishi Pajero and drive past real close to it - works for me
Mitsi mirrors are just the right height to take off an LT mirror when lane splitting at the lights. _________________ David, owner of:

No kidding. On the RS pickup trucks are your friend. On the LT, not so much _________________ 93 LT (x2)
