Have just taken delivery of a new RAM shock from Realm and have a couple of questions. I may be being a bit stupid here but anyway.....

Those of you that have fitted one already, is it supposed to rotate in the upper and lower mountings? It seems to be designed this way but I have never had a shock before which rotates around by about 10 degrees.

In addition to this, there is about 2mm of lateral (sideways) movement in the upper mounting. I have the washers fitted in what I would consider the normal places, i.e they are between the bolt head and nut on the outside of the chassis bracket. If I use the washers on the inside of the bracket so the washers are against the bushes, I don't have enough washers to use with the nut and bolt heads so I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong. The instructions do not advise where the washers go but I have tried all the combinations and cannot find what seems to be correct.

Cheers for any input if you have fitted one yourselves.

Edit: Just tried putting the back wheel on to see how the bike sat. The wheel would'nt go on as the shaft end of the bike is 3/4 inch lower. Had to jack up the bevel drive to get the wheel on so now with the bike on the centrestand the wheel is in contact with the ground. This can't be right. I'm going to take it off and measure up against the OEM shock.

I fitted my Ram shock today on my '97 1100LT.
I used the stock hardware for mounting, as I would have tools in the kit for roadside work if needed.

I have a little bit of sideways play at the top mount. You have to have some in order to get the bottom of the shock fitted on the final drive mounting stud.
Once both top and bottom are loosely fitted then I would put the torque wrench to them and tighten them up.
If you tighten the top before you have the lower end of the shock on the fd stud, you will have a b....ch of a time getting it on.

Now that I have both ends torqued on I can't feel any rotational movement in the upper body of the shock.

There was mention in the mounting instructions of manufacturing inconsistencies in the upper mounting bracket as far as the width of the space that the shock body mounts into. Hence the shipping of the extra washers for fillers if needed.
