What is the preferred method to bleed the ABS and calipers, suction or pressure?.
I have hand Might-Vac. I had the ABS modulator out and when I bled it, no bubbles. Went to the calipers and bled them, no bubbles but still not firm, front or back.
I also have the check valved bleeders on the calipers. Does that effect the vacuum method?
A friend at work thought about pressure from caliper up. Anybody have any success with that method? _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

Moondog,
I had the same problem when I had mine apart.
I would not recommend pressure from the caliper up. I've heard that you can damage the valving inside the ABS unit, but I don't know if that's true or not.
After futzing about with a MityVac and getting nowhere, I resorted to the tried and true method of pumping the master cylinder up 6-8 times, cracking open the bleeder screw (starting with the ABS unit first), push fluid out, close bleeder, add fluid.... ad nauseum. Repeat on the calipers.
If you've got those check-valved bleeders, you should have no problems
I ended up using about a pint and a half or so of brake fluid.
Hang in there, you'll get it.
regards,

M-D, I haven't tried to use the small mightyvac, but I use a larger (air conditioning service grade) vac pump and havent' had any problems with leaving any air in the system.
Bleed the abs 1st then the calipers 2nd.
You may even try to find a used medical suction pump, would work better too. _________________ Ride safe.

+1 here. Buy the large bottle of brake fluid and you will use up most of it. I did this with both of mine this last winter. _________________ Doug

I also used the Might-vac on mine and had what I considered a mushy pedal. All I did was give it a few pump and purge cycles and it came right around for me.

I have indeed bled from caliper to ABS & from ABS to master using a squirty oil can full of new fluid. My reasoning being that:- if the fluid & air are both rising the air will come out easier. Worked for me. Like yourself, I only needed to do it after removing the ABS 2 unit for access to clutch. The routing of the pipes does seem to cause air locks in an empty system.
Didn't use enough backwards pressure to annoy ABS or even to feel any.
