Hey Folks, I'm looking for suggestions on a "side stand down" warning light.

Through all the monkeying around with the wires trying to get my fuel pump cut off issue fixed, http://www.k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8412, I had disconnected the side stand cut off switch and then wired it back together when I discovered that was not the issue. A few weeks ago the bike would not start after turning it off and a bit of fiddling with the wires revealed that my side stand cut off wires were not very well re-connected. So, I just connected the wires from the Motronic to each other and have discovered the joy off being able to run the bike while on the side stand. Now my concern is that sooner or later, I'll drive off with the side stand down and bad things will happen.

I was wondering if there was an easy way to hook up the wires so that a light on the dash would flash annoyingly to warn me that side stand was down? I'd prefer not to add any new lights, but use one of the existing dash lights, like the ABS, or Low Fuel or any other light that might catch my attention.

Any suggestions?

I have mine wired to the bulb monitor unit light to illuminate that if the side stand is down. You'll need a SPDT relay. If you need instructions on how to wire it up, just ask.

Get 5 pin Bosch type relay. Make sure it has an 87a pin.

Wire as follows:

Ground one wire of the side stand switch.

Relay:

Pin 85: Other side stand switch wire.
Pin 86: 12V switched
Pin 30: Ground
Pin 87a: Tap into the blue white wire coming out of the BMU.
