Ok, ya all know how beat to piss the belly pan on the RS can get from front wheel spray & road debris. Mine was worn down to the plastic.
I tried to go to a couple shops that do the truck bed liner and talk to them about me bringing in the pan & how it should be prepped. Best price I got was about $45 and NO ONE seemed all that eager to help.
So............................ the heck with them. I did my own.
Now, I still like a little of the paint on the pan higher up where it joins the rest of the bike.
So I started out running a line of blue painters tape up to where I wanted to apply TBL. Then I used a sponge sanding block to really rough up everything below the tape. Then I washed it really well and sanded it again. Wash again, peel off old tape and then wiped it down with ether. Apply new tape, cover the paint I wanted to save, then sprayed a TBL I got from Wally World. I think it was Rustoleum. Let it dry over night, remove tape and put the pan back on the bike.
Rode a couple of weeks, then washed the bike to check how it was holding up. All is well, but! It just looked kind of plain jane to me.
I never did have the big K1100RS sticker on it as the PO had the pan re-painted. Only took 12,000 miles to blow it all to heck I might add.
So I ordered up my own sticker cause the dealer was not all that helpful either. And I got them in black reflective. Very hard to see at times, like a neon sign other times. I like that.
Still not enough, so I added a silver bi-line stripe from Farm & Fleet auto section and some silver door edge protector to high light the classic BMW Kidney shaped grill opening.
All in all, cost me $26 total for all the materials. Given the labor time and the $ quoted by the shops I think their price was fair in hind sight, it's just that they were not very helpful.
Oh well, it's been done like this since spring, I waited before posting to see how it would hold up. It's still holding up quite well, it's a daily driver.
Now go fix your belly.

What product/brand did you use? I asked my ceramic coating shop to do the headers for my Staintune but they wanted $150 to do them in flat black. Not worth it but me giving them a rattle can paint job is worth a shot..

This stuff, from a local auto parts store, nothing fancy, just that is for headers and is very high heat tolerant. Still looks good a year later.
