Anybody know or know where to find the limit on the front brake pads? Front brakes don't seem as tight as they use to be. Took the calipers off they look a little thin but I am not sure. _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

Minimum thickness is listed in the K1100Lt Owners manual (pdf file link somewhere in forum or PM me and I can provide). This is what it says:
Minimum brake pad thickness mm (in) 1.5 (0.059) _________________ Rainbows end down that highway where ocean breezes blow

The thickness of your brake pads should have no impact on stopping power. I suspect your hoses are getting mushy. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Brand new stainless steel.
I wasn't asking because of stopping power just for whether it is time to change them out. I might have a stuck piston in the caliper. Now that could be an issue. _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

similar issue .. did you bleed the system and renew it with new DOT 4 fluid.
also ... a tip when replacing pads.... get a catch bottle and attach a hose to the bleeder nipple. crack the nipple and force the pads away and the fluid into the catch... close the nipple when the pads are fully seated.
you will have accomplished 2 items.
1- easy removal of the pads and removal of any contaminated brake fluid will not be forced back into the system.
2- when you bleed the system you will not be mixing new and old fluid. you will have less to replace and you can fill the resivor to the top mark..
as the fluid gose into the system it becomes a pad gauge.. when the fliud falls below the min mark time to inspect the pads. _________________ fix the problem not the blame ; fix what is messed up ; NO one is to blame. |
