|
|
Hello again,
I've just noticed a small crack in my fairing support bracket on my K1100LT whilst rubbing down a few rust spots to touch up.
I have a few questions :
#!. Has anyone else experienced this happening ?
#2. I desperately need to get it back on the road & don't really have the time to find & fit a replacement just yet,
do you think it looks like it should be alright for a bit ?
#3. Can the bracket be squeezed out without removing the fairing ? Possibly just externally supporting it ? It looks abit tight tbh but thought I'd ask.
Plus I don't think someone could or would be willing to weld it in situ ? _________________ "A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing."

Yes i had the main support bracket crack then completely break away on me last year. I used a couple of large cable ties to hold it together until i got a replacement. Yes the fairing does have to come off but you can leave the lowers in position if you are careful.
I sourced my replacement from Motorworks at a cost of £50.00 +p&p
they advised me that it was not all that common an occurance as they seemed to have spares that showed no sign of cracking. _________________ Fat Ba***d with a K1100LTse

Gday Laverda
Agree with Technician, cable ties will hold it till you have the time.
I would'nt spend 50 quid on a new one though, find a mate with a mig and a carton of beer, maybe two if you're slow workers.
Happy welding

In my case bugger all amounted to eighty bucks OZ, but two of the four tags where the bolts go on the headstem had split on mine. Doubtless cheaper than sourcing a new one _________________ David, owner of:

Cost me 5 English Pounds (less than two pints of Beer). It is sadly a common occurrence. But one of the cheaper common K11 failures. _________________ Regards Tim,

D'ya think anyone would do it in situ (I've got Screen, instruments etc...removed) but don't wanna strip anymore at present as I need it back on the road & it looks like it only needs a "blob". _________________ "A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing."

I'm beginning to wonder if my loud vibration at 2200rpm isn't something like this. _________________ K1100RS '97

My symptoms were a rattle, mostly noticeable on rough bits of road. Was the first time I've ridden a motorbike that sounded like a car with stuffed shocker rubbers _________________ David, owner of:
