No not another cooking thread
I've decided I'm not a very brave rider after someone pointed out my chicken strips on the back tyre. There's about half an inch (converted to imperial for the backward countries) of untouched rubber on my back tyre...am I going too slow?
I have never scraped anything except when I hit a big bump mid corner once. On my K100 I used to scrape the muffler all the time but still had similar chicken strips. Perhaps the K11 is a little bit better tucked in? _________________ K1100RS '97

Ha, I sniff at your chicken strips and offer you emu strips!
Front tyre with around 1620 Km (or a thousand miles for our USAnian friends)
And the rear which has nearly 6200 Km (or around 3900 miles)
For a former racer, that is pretty awful. I can only plead that the old girl is primarily a commuter
Plus dammit due to medical reasons I haven't even been allowed to ride it for two months now - but in about three weeks I'll be on it again; bring it on!! _________________ David, owner of:

With all the crap and sand is many corners here I tend to be somewhat conservative on the public roads- so I probably have maybe the same 1/2" of unused tire.
Track days are a different story- took my son's Monster to New Hampshire Raceway this summer. This is what I had left after 8- 20 minute sessions. Those are Michelin PR2 tires and they do STICK. I was dragging the right peg and beveled the exhaust clamp bolt on the left. You can see at the very edge that it will start to "drift" a bit when ALL the way over.
Damn- that was fun. _________________ John & Cathy

I generally cut mine about a 1/2" wide before flash frying them in a pan with some hot oil, go great with a bit of Chorizo in there too. _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed or numbered! |

Often watched that video but never realised it was the Flying Duck's ride.
Good footage, (funny we don't say meterage) and although I didn't get sea-sick the music was certainly like a hornet in the ear.
What happened to that bike Duck?
What are good ply tyres for the KRS, or are they just definitely out of date now?

Bridgestone Spitfires. I put those on my last K75S. Great handling, low price, good mileage. Heck of a deal if you ask me.
Chicken strip? What's a chicken strip? I paid for a whole tire and I'm damned well gonna use it all.

Can see the Flying Duck is a bit of a cannibal and eats chicken strips for brekky.
Those two K bikes look so dang hot there in that fine pic, well set up, on the road and ready to GO n GO
But WTF is that Polar Bear doing there, or has it just eaten the Duck and his mate?

Nice smooth tyre there FD, I might try and get mine to look like that this weekend.
I wish my ex would behave like a yowie, ie be impossible to find!
MG, don't go down the cross ply route, just get Mich PR2s. _________________ K1100RS '97

Yessiree
I really liked your excellent write up of the HID lights Drikko
Well done and thorough. Found where the HIDs did not work and found and showed where they did...
I have been saying that I can live with yellow, when I meant, I can live with red as I had the colour of your bike wrong.
Sort of alluding to if you decide to move to Laverdas big time, then I can give your steed a very good well cared for home with me.
Still saving me funds and riding the trusty airhead, but needing a K11RS to ride to Sydney every coupla months to visit my Son in the big smoke.
Reckon by Winter I will be ready
Something to think about anyways and I will definitely ONLY put Mich PR2s on the big beast |

Give this a try.
4 - 5 lb. Chicken
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing
1 cup uncooked popcorn
Salt/pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Brush chicken well with melted butter salt, and pepper.
Fill cavity with stuffing mixed with popcorn.
Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.
Listen for the popping sounds. When the chicken's arse blows the
oven door open and the chicken flies across the room and lands on the
table, it's done and ready to eat. _________________ K1100RS '97

No you're a smart rider. It's a shame when having to prove that your wacker is bigger then the next guy makes it in to an already dangerous hobbie. Who ever started this stupid idea had some issues to start with. Your riding at your own level and to push it is heading into dangerous limits. If we were all trained like the riders on the track it wouldn't do us any good on the streets. Speed limit is 55-75. So ride your ride and ignore the folks the talk about "chicken strips". I gave up taking dares when I turned 12.
Which goes along with the Iron-butt where you risk your life and people around you just to prove you can stay awake for 24 hours and drive 1000 miles. Another dubious side of this sport. Come on folks, wake up and STAY SAFE. _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

You should learn a bit more about the IBA before making such comments. Your comment about how unsafe a 1,000 mile day is merely an uninformed knee-jerk reaction to the notion. It's very easy to do 1,000 mile days safely. I've done it several times (only bothered to get one documented) and it had nothing to do with proving anything to anyone or doing anything unsafe. If you don't think YOU can do it safely then don't do it.
In fact, I'd say that Iron Butt riders are probably a lot safer than your average rider. To start with, they put a lot of planning and preparation into the ride. They know their route ahead of time and make sure their bikes are in tip top shape before a ride. They also make sure that they're in a good physical state before attempting the ride. They also most likely have more experience/training than someone who rides 1,000 miles a year. Then there's a belief in ATGATT which most IBAers have.
Given the choice, I'd rather ride with and would feel safer with someone who can complete a 1,000 mile day over someone who can't.
Try reading this and you'll see that the IBA is all about SAFELY riding long distances:
http://www.ironbutt.com/tech/aowprintout.cfm
Like I said, if it's not for you then don't do it. Long distance riding isn't for everyone. We're all different. But please don't run around spouting off about something which you seem to know very little about. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Well Duck we will disagree on this. Why do they limit airline pilots and truck drivers to so many hours in a day? And how come they DON"T limit doctors in training (which I will never understand). And it is not whether I know anything about it or not. Common sense tells me it a a dangerous ride. And especially to do 1000 miles one has to break alot of laws to do it. That is where now the rider is drawing the public into the danger.
The mind and body get exhausted. No amount of preparation can can stave off the inevitable loss of ability the more you ride. The body isn't made for that amount of punishment. Even in my younger days I didn't dare think of a ride like that. Now I am sure I couldn't do it. It is a dangerous undertaking no matter who does it especially on a bike. _________________ "Badges?
