Tonight, in once again torrential rain, all my problems seem to be in torrential rain, my gear indicator started acting up, showing either 0 or 1 no matter what gear, just after this happened my neutral light started randomly coming on in some gears. Didn't affect anything else, any ideas as to a fix?

Hope it stops raining someday... It should start working again when it dries out - most of them do.

The switch can be opened for drying/cleaning, have a look a bit more than halfway in this rather long thread.

For now I have unplugged it, quite happy to ride around without gear indicator or neutral light, been riding long enough to know what gear I'm in. Apart from having to hold clutch in can anyone see a problem with this?

Only one technical problem/possibility: if your clutch switch also fails (somewhat frequent on these bikes), you will be unable to start the bike with the starter motor.

A bump start would be your only option, so start riding with some muscular guys Laughing

BTW, my clutch switch is currently non-functional and needs replacement. (Yeah Scott, still haven't managed to get it replaced Embarassed )

Well, you will have all winter once the snow flies......
I've got to replace the bobbins on the '95 this winter. I didn't realize how bad they were getting, they are shot.
Priced new ones from Max, around $100 for the whole set minus the E-clips and washers. I didn't think that was too bad for oem.

Remove the gear indicator switch from the transmission, clean it according to the procedure in this URL:
http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/bvogel/K100/K100.htm

Look for the title "TGPI Switch" for the disassembly photos and procedure. After it is clean and reassembled, cover the switch casing in silicon sealant to keep out the moisture.

Re-install the switch.

It's best to do this when you have to get at the transmission output shaft splines for their lubrication. The swing arm needs to come off to get at the switch and at the transmission output shaft. Good time to lubricate the swing arm bearings as well!
