Thank you, Rich. It totally sucks. I'll know more in the next couple days. I can't tell if just the fairing is tweaked, or if the forks are tweaked...

Oh man Jim !!! Sucks is not a strong enough word.... we ALL feel your pain believe me.. Sorry this had to happen to any rider's ride, but a "K" and you to boot, makes it all the worse.

That'll buff right out. NOT.
Boy, that sucks. What a shame. Wind I assume?
Make sure to check the main fairing bracket for cracks/breakage.
Just my opinion but I think they do better in the wind if left on the side stand in gear.

Yeah, wind.
For some reason I didn't think of putting it on the sidestand. Most of the wind was coming from the north - the bike was pointed almost north. It must have been hit with a gust from the west. Sidestand might have saved it.
I'm pretty sure the bracket is tweaked - something is definitely crooked up there. I hope it's not the forks - don't see how it could be.

Reminds me of a guy over on ADV who had a time lapse vid of his Connie getting blown over. Painful to watch.
Look at the bright side. At least you weren't on it when it crashed. (Small consolation, I know.)

Thanks for the kind words guys. They help.
Yeah, it's insured. I thought I could slap a few new parts on there after getting them painted, but that's not going to be the case. I'll take it to Beemersuberalles. Which is a very long name... Im sure I can trust George with it - I'm just used to taking it to Anton @ Virginia Motorrad.
Somehow, I always thought if I was going to do that much damage to the K, I'd be riding it. FTW(ind).

OMFG that is ugly. Sorry about your misfortune.
Yup! Looks like the curb REALLY added to the damage. Good lesson for us all to remember too.
For me at least, never park parallel to the curb. Even the slightest crown in the road will place the bike at a tip to the curb angle. Every little degree of lean helps/hurts. Park at an angle to the curb, back tire right against it, snick down to first, side stand deploy.
Goodness I hope the insurance carrier does not try and total it on ya.
Better luck moving forward on that.

We typically don't have 45 - 50 mile an hour winds, with gusts up to 55 or so miles an hour - fortunately.
I hope the adjuster has his Christmas spirit on...

| With empathy I view your damage. My K went down (before I got engine guards from seller) from a Feb. freeze thaw cycle on gravel that cracked fairing, crushed rear view mirror. (still white mirror) I've been investing in mechanical issues and finally got jost of them straightened out (Thank you Duck for refering me to ABCBMW in Eureka MO). Still park bike outside with a cover. After seeing this I may look for matresses along side road to break fall (neighbors love me anyway), though now I have a paved driveway. Will not pull car as close after seeing your pic unless I find a way to strap matress to sides to control damage. Happy New Year all. |

OH, don't I wish. I saved up enough to build a 2.5 car garage (if I actually built it myself), then the Nazis who run this miserable county told me I couldn't - lot coverage laws. Well, apparently the law was either never passed, or it was immediately rescinded. Had I gone for the permit either two months before or two months after I did, I'd probably have a nice garage and shop right now.
