Was about to change front caliper seals because brakes were binding.
Pistons were not returning into caliper.
I decided that when the calipers were loose I would clean them off first before disconnecting.
Did all that put them back on - pulled brake lever - stayed pulled ????
No reisistance at all. Anybody know what's the problem.
So while you are all in bed here am I worrying about my bike - wake up ! ! |

Maybe you have a brake line collapsing. That was the problem I discovered after rebuilding the calipers on mine. _________________ '93 K1100LT

I'm awake!! ABS or not? Did you bleed them properly? Bleeding would be the obvious thing! Is there pure fluid coming out the bleed nipples at the ABS and the caliper? _________________ K1100RS '97

I didn't mess with the the fluid but maybe they might need a bleed.
it did this a short time ago but recovered but they were binding and ABS wasn't kicking in.
Glad you are awake and waiting for my questions.

Hahaha! Good one! I have an old set of official tags I've been tempted to use on occasion... _________________ Jim

Gday AL, this might help, on my bike whenever I bottom out the front pistons , ie. pad change the fluid takes ages to move back into the system. I pump the brake lever every hour or so and after a few hours back to normal, no bleeding required.

Found it - the last time I had a master cylinder it was caused by water in the piston area - so I put lots of Teflon grease around the pin from the lever and under the little boot. The grease and seized the piston. Took it out cleaned up and now it seems fine. Have to do road test but I think this is the issue.
Thanks for advice anyway ! |

Check out my earlier thread:

I dismantled the calipers, and using a syringe, the whole system only bled fully by (i believe) raising the calipers and tying to the ceiling and then bleeding them(courtesy of Duck). _________________ Luck is when planning and opportunity meet |
