Historic IB rides 1920

Saw this in front of an Indian Motorcycle in the Brisbane Museum today. 1114 miles in 24 hours in 1920! Getting petrol would have been an effort alone! :-

My grandfather and great grandfather won a 500 mile endurance race in 1914. Just imagine the roads, or lack of and the state of tire technology at the time. He spent his entire career on Indians.

This is them, my grandfather Orie Steele was the rider, and my Great grandfather John Steele is in the sidecar. It was the Yonkers, New York race and the "Paterson" pennant is for Paterson, New Jersey where they were from.

My grandfather is now in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame here in the states. You can see more about him at http://www.oriesteele.com
