|
|
Hi!
The gear indicator does not indicate correct gear.
Just in case, I checked the indicator works fine with several jumper cords.
I found it out the gear position switch has problem.
In order to remove the gear position switch from transmission, do I need remove the muffler and the swing arm also?
Or, can I remove only gear position switch without removing any parts?
My LT does not have CAT. _________________ ------------------------------

To gain access to the switch you will need to remove the swing arm. I think this also requires removal of the exhaust.
Has the switch always been problematic? If this has occurred recently it could be due to over enthusiastic washing of the bike (with a hose).
When I greased my splines I dismantled and cleaned the gear indicator switch as I had similar problems however after an over enthusiastic wash the switch became problematic again until it dried out - it took most of last summer to dry out. I now wash the bike with a bucket and sponge and the problem has not recurred.
If you do take the switch apart - watch out for the small springs and switch contacts taking flight! _________________ K1100RS Special Edition 1997

Second that; the switch is joined by plastic clipping which is very hard and unmoving while it is cold; get it warmed thro and it comes apart a lot easier; then as warned watch out for flying bits. Even after i did that it was still reading wrong till a long time after - now!! - when it reads correctly. NO way to it till you get the swing arm off; no need to remove the exhaust; just support it when you take off the under gearbox clip and the pannier area "clip".
Good luck

Thank you so much!!
Today, I want to check the location of the gear position switch without removing any parts. But, I can not see that.
So, I will remove the swing arm... And the exhaust also.
Because, last week, I found out my exhaust has crack. After removing the exhaust from engine, I have to weld the exhaust. _________________ ------------------------------
