I live in Northern Indiana. This will be my first entire riding season with my K1100LT. I plan to ride it every chance I get.
I was wondering how many miles you guys ride during your summer riding season. For those of you who don't have winter, how many miles do you ride from April through October?
I would set up this question as a poll if I knew how to do it. |

Not very many but I try to get in a ride or two a month when it's not raining - which lately has been NEVER! Here's to hoping we have a good PNW spring. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Interesting question...got me thinking. I just started riding in October and, with the rare excetption of a few days where the temperature dipped below zero here, I have been commuting to work every day - rain or shine. Add fun trips and I've been doing about 2000 miles a month. I suspect when the weather gets better (we had a glorious February last year) I will be repeating my typical routine of 45 minutes to work and two hours to get home. I can easily see myself cracking 10000 miles just in local riding, but throw in a few planned longer trips and that may double.
The interesting part is that my other mode of transport is a '96 Ford F250 4x4 with a 7.5ltr engine. My typical gas consumption was $150 per week. Compare that to the $18 per week (Cdn) I'm burning now. Also, I have broken the habit of stopping for a bagel and coffee for my commute, so my waistline is improving too. I think your question just helped me justify spending the savings on more gear or another bike. |

Yes, I commute almost every day on my bike. Today there were icy patched so I brought the car, but I am kicking myself because the temp is going up to a balmy 48 degrees later. I will have to go for a ride once I get hime. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Hi, Stu,
Prior to late January, I would have told you I ride between 5k and 10k per year between 15 Apr and 15 Oct. I drove my car more than 45k miles last year. I worked mostly in Mexico at factories between 250 and 875 miles south of home (El Paso, TX). The company had told me, more than once, not to ride a bike on company business. On January 23 they told me, "Our business has changed. We no longer want anyone to visit our contractors' factories to check out quality and production issues. Your position is eliminated, effective immediately." So maybe this year I will be able to ride more, or maybe less, depending on where I can find a job.

Sorry Phil, that sucks.
Look for a job where you can get paid to ride
I have put 50 miles on my bike since I woke it up from it's winter slumber last week. |

Why in the world would it make any difference what kind of vehicle you showed up in. Sorry to hear about your job, Phil. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

Damn phil, Sorry to hear that.
As for summer miles, it will change this year no doubt. I just got this bike in July of last year and did ride it quite a bit. But it is hot and I live in Texas. Don't need a calculator to add that one up! I keep checking the K-Guard website and he is still shut down I guess. Anybody got a used set they want to part with?
It was nice on the cold days this winter though. never had to put layers on my legs. My First Gear riding pants and the built in heater were all that has been necessary.
